Anyone else getting annoyed with anti covid vaccine comments?

I know everyone is entitled to their own opinion and free speech etc but I am becoming increasingly annoyed with people referencing those who have had the vaccine as ‘sheep’ or ‘brain washed’.
The Pfizer and AZ jabs arent completely new technology, it’s not like they have even created from scratch... and is there anything actually in this vaccines that may cause an alarm for a concern, I don’t think so

I just laugh at anyone who calls people who've had vaccines a sheep or brainwashed. They go down in the flat earthers category for me and as such I don't care about their opinions.

Not people who don't want it for non-conspiracy reasons of course.

If someone called me a sheep directly I would laugh and say I'm enjoying my Bill Gates microchip and that they're missing out.

YANBU to find it annoying though.

Stitched77 · 21/05/2021 12:28

Of course, it is possible to be respectful whichever side of the fence you are on. I think a lot of people are - all the ones I know in real life.

Online, of course, some people go for it and maybe use a load of vitriol that they would never even think of in real life - and those are the comments that stand out. I don't think online comments are a good indicator of things.

I thought this was the first time an mRNA had been used on the public? Up until now, they have all been weakened forms of a virus that's injected? Happy to be educated, though.

fungussingstheblues · 21/05/2021 12:29

*an mRNA vaccine

InTheNightWeWillWish · 21/05/2021 12:31

It’s funny as people who are pro the vaccine don’t make any derogatory comments to them

You must not have seen the thread yesterday about a colleague who hadn’t had the vaccine. A poster was genuinely suggesting talking to management and implementing bullying tactics in the workplace to make life their more difficult until they had the vaccine. You’ve also just demonstrated the derogatory comments from a pro-vaccine to someone you assumed was an anti-vaxxer (and isn’t) by calling them an anti-vaxxer based on their biscuits comment to you. They hadn’t actually said anything against the vaccine but don’t let that stop you in calling anyone who isn’t automatically agreeing an anti-vaxxer.

Somethingsnappy · 21/05/2021 12:36

@Igglepiggle3

Exactly *@pointythings* - how can the AZ be an experimental vaccine when it is ‘old technology’? Ok the MRNA is newer but as been studied for years. And Big pharma - some of these vaccines are non profitable. Totally agree with your last point too
Studied, but never approved.... Until now. I do understand why some may feel hesitant about that one.
Igglepiggle3 · 21/05/2021 12:38

@InTheNightWeWillWish well, I don’t know officially what the biscuit emoji means - I know it’s mostly used as a derogatory emoji so yes (wrongly) assumed that poster was anti Vaxxer but I was proven wrong! But did I say anything derogatory about them being anti - Vax? No because it’s their choice.

Posters in the workplace are totally not appropriate and surely not legal? I didn’t see that post....

OP posts:
Igglepiggle3 · 21/05/2021 12:39

@fungussingstheblues no you are right as I was also. Irreversible by another poster on here - what I meant about the MRNA is that is not completely new - the technology has been worked in for years despite there not being another approved vaccine.

I suppose only time will tell if people were right or wrong to take the vaccine. Until then it’s a case of everyone believing they’re right.

Someone’s going to be wrong when we’re either all skipping around mask free teaming with antibodies abroad or still masked up fighting off 100 different variants holidaying in Rhyl.

Who it will be is the question.

Igglepiggle3 · 21/05/2021 12:41

@Somethingsnappy yes agree

OP posts:
vodkaredbullgirl · 21/05/2021 12:43

I took no offence at all.

Igglepiggle3 · 21/05/2021 12:44

I read that most side effects of the vaccines show up within a few months. This is based on previous studies of vaccines like the the polio.
All these different vaccines are available now, all with emergency approval and I just can’t see that they would have been sanctioned IF there was any risk at all

PurpleDaisies · 21/05/2021 12:47

There’s always risk with any medication. It’s just that the risk of taking the vaccine is much less than the risk of complications from covid if you get it (exactly how much depends on your age and health). It’s not helpful to pretend otherwise. Nothing in life is risk free.

fungussingstheblues · 21/05/2021 12:51

For the elderly and vulnerable, yes, the risk of taking the vaccine is much less than the risk from covid. But not for the younger and healthy –the prospect of mass-vaccinating children is insane –completely unnecessary.

InTheNightWeWillWish · 21/05/2021 12:54

But did I say anything derogatory about them being anti - Vax? No because it’s their choice.

Just assuming someone is anti-vax based on nothing is pretty derogatory. Especially considering anti-vaxxer label is thrown at anyone who has vaccine hesitancy or believes in body autonomy. Especially at the moment.

Mum233 · 21/05/2021 12:55

I respect decisions made by people who don’t want to have it although I have no sympathy for those who won’t get it because it’s an “attempt by the govt to keep track on us”. Those people go in the same group who parents I encountered during lockdown at the school gate who wouldn’t wear a mask as COVID wasn’t real

Igglepiggle3 · 21/05/2021 13:07

@Mum233 totally agree. If people just said they didn’t feel comfortable having the vaccine then I wouldn’t have an issue. It’s when they quote these far fetched ideas and call those who have had the jab a sheep and brainwashed.

I won’t be getting my child vaccinated - this is because I have looked at the stats - younger children rarely have symptoms nor does the illness have any affect therefore the vaccine seems pointless

OP posts:
OriginalTaste · 21/05/2021 13:14

I haven't had the vaccine due to the medication I am on and being advised to wait by my specialist. I hate being called an anti-Vaxxer, a refusenik, all the rest.

If you want it, have it. I won't judge anyone either way

fungussingstheblues · 21/05/2021 14:50

It works both ways...
