Is it normal to feel low and almost suicidal after a baby? My beautiful girl is almost 5 weeks she is so perfect. But I am struggling so badly and don't know where to turn anymore.

Please contact your GP or health visitor. It's normal to be stressed and a little low but not suicidal. Please get help

Post natal depression can be very severe and, although I'm no expert, it sounds as though this is what you are suffering from. Speak to your GP and/or Health Visitor as soon as possible. They will give you advise and help. Don't feel that you have to cope with this alone. I am sure others will be able to give more specific advise about organisations who can help further.

I love my baby so much I just don't think I'm good enough for her

No this is not normal and you may well be ill and need medical help. Tell someone you are close to so they can support you in getting help from HV or GP sooner rather than later. Take care.

Mylittlesandwich · 21/05/2021 13:13

Please speak to someone. I've been in your shoes. I also didn't feel good enough for my baby but with medication and counselling I'm in a good place how. Speak to your GP or HV. It gets better but not if you don't speak up.

you are good enough for her. you are her mum and that is all she needs.

do speak to your GP or HV or call the samaritans.

shouldistop · 21/05/2021 13:21

You are good enough for her, you're her whole world and the only thing she needs just now.
Please speak to your gp for the sake of your baby, getting help is the best way for you to show your love for her.

It absolutely sounds like you are suffering from post natal depression. This is not how women ‘normally’ feel after giving birth, but pnd is surprisingly common and you are not alone. Remember, if this is the case, you have a medical condition that thousands of women suffer from every year and this is what is making you feel like you do. Absolutely nothing to do with you not being good enough for your baby. Speak to your gp or health visitor, they will have seen this many times before and will be able to get you immediate help. You will be ok, you just need some help. Sending positive thoughts

Getting help is vital and the sooner you do, the sooner you will start to feel better. It's not normal but it's not unusual. Does your partner know how you feel?
Also because it's a common concern, Social Services don't swoop in and take a loved and looked after baby away just because of PND.

I had this with my DS2. I didnt say anything to anyone for a few months and it was awful. It wont go away on its own and you need to speak to someone as soon as possible.

I thought I would be judged for telling my GP how I felt while sitting in his room with my perfect baby in my arms. There was no judgement from the GP. There was no prying questions. He didnt make me delve into it. He prescribed medication and advised I go to a therapist.

The medication lifted my mood in less than two weeks. The therapy helped me straighten things out in my head. I came off the meds after about 6 months.

I wish I had reached out for help sooner.

Please dont delay looking for support, reach out now Flowers

Please speak to your midwife or gp urgently. Your baby needs you and you absolutely are good enough. You are exhausted in mind and body. Giving birth and caring for a newborn is hard.
Please please get help, you can and will feel better with treatment. Trust me, I speak from experience.
