To stick a sign on my old washing machine ??

Basically, in Oct half term, my mum had a new bed and I had my mums old one.

I collapsed my old one, which was a heavy wooden bed base and put it on my drive right at the bottom (2 car length) and up against the wall ready for collection.

At the time I was waiting to see if my dad was getting rid of his wardrobe which I was having for dd1 and so didn't arrange collection straight away as i'd also need collection of dd's old wardrobe.

Anyway, less than a week after I put the bed on the drive, i had a letter from the HA saying that they had had complaints about the rubbish on my driveway. I was seriously pissed off, as everyone around here knows I am a single mum and struggle to get rid of household stuff on my own.

Anyway, bed has now gone, BUT I have a washing machine being collected by the council on Tuesday. Xp is coming over today and so I am going to ask him to put it right at the front of my drive because I won't be able to move it on my own.

AIBU to stick a note to it saying something like 'BEING COLLECTED ON TUESDAY, HAVE SOME PATIENCE'

I actually think that sounds alot calmer than I want it to.

no- i think that sounds perfectly reasonable.

nutcracker · 17/11/2007 09:00

Hi emma, hows you ??

I think I know whoit is that has complained, and they obviously have nowt else to do.

that is perfectly reasonable.

when i put mine out the front ready to take down the tip, the scrap metal boys came round and asked if they could take them for free. i said yes.

Lazarou · 17/11/2007 09:02

just put 'being collected tuesday' you don't need to put the other bit

tiredemma · 17/11/2007 09:07

Im Ok- how is college going?

nutcracker · 17/11/2007 09:09

They won't know I am pissed off then Lazaru.

Have just printed this out..

TO THE PERSON WHO HAS NOTHING BETTER TO DO THAN COMPLAIN ABOUT OTHER PEOPLE?

THIS IS BEING COLLECTED ON TUESDAY?.OK ?

IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THAT, TRY KNOCKING MY DOOR INSTEAD OF MOANING TO THE HOUSING

I try really hard to keep my house looking ok, especially from the front, and it pisses me off that people around here are so quick to complain when they could have just knocked my door and asked me when I was going to move it.

It's ok emma, feeling a bit stressed out about the exam though. How is uni going ??

OP posts:
Lazarou · 17/11/2007 09:13

Yep, that ought to do it, lol!

nutcracker · 17/11/2007 09:14

tiredemma · 17/11/2007 09:19

What exam is it?

Uni is good- im on placement at the moment in a male inpatient unit. I love it so much- would love to work there when I qualify.

Got loads of assignments though and no time to do them!

crokky · 17/11/2007 09:20

How about:

BEING COLLECTED ON TUESDAY - THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE

persephonesnape · 17/11/2007 09:39

I'd just go for 'being collected on Tuesday'. you don't need to let the snitchy people know that they've upset you.

nutcracker · 17/11/2007 10:02

Glad you are enjoying your placement emma, should imagine that makes alot of dfference.

I could go with the nice polite notice yeah, but I don't feel like being polite. Am I sinking to their level ? Probably yes, but I don't like being spied on and then grassed up for something so stupid, when there is stuff that goes on around here that really needs complaining about.

Cover the washing machine with plastic so it looks like it's been delivered new to you and watch as some idiot nicks the broken washing machinen :O

nutcracker · 18/11/2007 09:54

LOL Dynamicnanny, that is a fab idea, only wish I had some plastic now

I did stick the sign on in the end, just waiting to see if it rattles anyones cage now.

I live in a rough area that has 1 advantage, if I live anything in the garden it will be stolen by the next morning, got rid of a few things that way, including 2 double buggies (one with no wheels)

They dont take it because they want it, they take it because they think they are pissing you off..........haa haa little do they know.........

totaleclipse · 18/11/2007 10:08

leave, not live.

nutcracker · 18/11/2007 11:54

I used to do that when we lived in the flat. Used to take anything unwanted over to one particular tower block, and within half hour it would be gone.

OP posts:
colditz · 18/11/2007 11:56

I do that, TE. Leave things outside for a few days that I don't want. Guarenteed to get stolen!

TheYoungVisiter · 18/11/2007 12:07

I always leave unwanted furniture in our front garden, usually with a note saying "take if you want it", but sometimes without. It always goes within a week (we live in an area that can politely be described as "mixed").

Once we put out our horrible old knacked bath with 70s taps. Within an hour the taps had gone. Within 2 days the bath had gone too.

Lazarou · 19/11/2007 11:31

nutcracker, any reaction to your note?

nametaken · 19/11/2007 12:33

just a thought, won't the people delivering the new washing machine take the old one away. You've got me worried now coz I need a new machine next month and round here you get charged £30 for the council to collect white goods - I always thought they installed new one and took old one away. Or am I up for a £30 bill just before xmas.

MarkStretch · 19/11/2007 12:36

Put a sign on it saying 'WASHING MACHINE £50'

You can guarantee someone will nick it saving you the hassle of getting it collected.
