Especially now they are all online.

They need to be run by all the clinicians involved to see if they can be released

spanieleyes · 20/05/2021 20:56

Try getting blood test results! My son has a blood clotting disorder and needed some tests.
Hospital A sent him a form to take to Hospital B to have the tests taken
Hospital B sent the blood to Hospital C for it to be processed
Hospital C sent the results to the GP
The GP has to wait until hospital A emails to request the results, except Hospital A doesn't know that the results are ready so haven't emailed.
The GP says they can't email the results to Hospital A as they don't know who to send them to.
Hospital B can't send the results to Hospital A even though they took the blood and know who to send them to but didn't process the results
Hospital C can't send the results to hospital A or B as they have to send them to the GP
All the hospitals use a different computer system so can't retrieve the results automatically.
It's a good job he only has a life threatening condition😳

For a start they’re not all online in many places, and those that have gone online not everything is digitised yet

Allflowover · 20/05/2021 21:00

spanieleyes Sorry to hear that I’ve had issues with blood tests results recently to. I’ve only asked for notes from the past couple of years so all should be online.

Disclosures have to pull in both electronic and any paper notes. Then a lead clinician has to be identified and has to read all notes to be disclosed. This job is unlikely to be at the top of the clinicians priorities.

sarahc336 · 20/05/2021 21:06

As @Guavaf1sh had said. I work in a nhs mental health trust and if we have a request for notes each therapist that has had contact with the patient must check the notes they have made and they can only be released once it's all checked snd I guess this just takes time xx

Allflowover · 20/05/2021 21:11

I’ve heard of someone else being sent there electric notes within a couple of days.

sarahc336 · 20/05/2021 21:16

Well i guess if only one member of staff needs to check them snd they're in work and organised then I can believe this but I know for example if I have notes to check over I wouldn't miss annual leave to do it etc. They will be in the case, I'm sure it's something like a 21 day turn around so they're allowed several weeks unfortunately. X

Allflowover · 20/05/2021 21:18

What if the member of staff has left the trust for example like two of the people have that will have written in my notes?

FontyMcFontface · 20/05/2021 21:20

They need to be read first and redacted

Allflowover · 20/05/2021 21:21

What do you mean redacted?

OP posts:
Blue4YOU · 20/05/2021 21:26

They do not need to be redacted or read first OP unless there’s a safeguarding issue (eg it could harm you to read something and you’d be well aware if there was such a concern).
The NHS has one month to reply to Data Protection (DPA) requests for information held by them.
If you haven’t asked under DPA repeat your request under DPA.

Ps redacted means certain bits blacked out or excluded

Dullardmullard · 20/05/2021 21:28

Certain information taken out redacted

chinateapot · 20/05/2021 21:29

Any third party information usually needs redacting too. It can take a really long time to sort through.

ThinWomansBrain · 20/05/2021 21:31

get access to your online patient records via your GP surgery.
It won't stop the problems of results not getting to your GP, but you will see them once they arrive.
I've found things more efficient recently - I had access to blood test results the day after the test at some point last year.

Allflowover · 20/05/2021 21:33

Thanks everyone I would understand for example patient names of other patients being removed from my inpatient stays but can’t really see any need for anything else to be removed

My fathers Dr surgery closed and he had to find a new GP practice. His medical notes have been sent to another part of the country.

I have voiced my concern that if, in the event that my father needs to see his new GP, the GP currently has no background medical history on him.

This has been the case since March and it can take months apparently! I have asked the surgery to request my fathers notes but we just have to wait apparently.
