OH had mushrooms with his steak a month ago, was so ill afterwards. Thought it was a one off. Bought steak again, with mushrooms, tomatoes, chips. Well he was hurling within a minute of eating first mushroom was so bad I was put off my dinner so the dogs got the lot.

I bought some steak again, he went out and bought mushrooms, asked him to eat mushrooms after I had eaten my dinner, he refused. Now done a bit of googling, you can suddenly have a bad reaction to mushrooms if he hurls again in the next room to the kitchen which is the bathroom, that is another meal the dogs will enjoy.

I just want to bloody enjoy my steak dinner AIBU

On my daughters first trial day at school she had mushrooms for lunch she took one bite of the mushrooms and was sick everywhere, I had to go and fetch her.
Why does he keep trying to eat them if they make him violently ill?

VividGemini · 20/05/2021 15:34

How do you know it's the mushrooms and not the steak Grin

cupsofcoffee · 20/05/2021 15:38

Why does his him being sick mean you can't eat your dinner?

jojogoesbust · 20/05/2021 15:43

Weird post. Why does he keep eating something that makes him ill?

Why do you have to stop eating mushrooms?

OodieWoodie · 20/05/2021 15:46

I developed a sudden mushroom intolerance in my late teens. I had been fine up until then. Now I cannot stomach then. I get the weirdest stomach aches and it is only after eating mushrooms. I just don't eat them.

I'm not sure why his being sick stops you eating your dinner unless you're eating in the bathroom?!

Thisseatisnotavailable · 20/05/2021 15:47

Does he not think that it's the mushrooms? Why is he still eating them?

Taliskerskye · 20/05/2021 15:48

Eat your steak as quickly as possible before he digs into a mushroom. Everything else on your plate is collateral- leave it!

BeachWaves2 · 20/05/2021 15:50

Yep I developed a sudden allergy to mushrooms also. Took a while to realise what was making me sick as I was able to eat them fine before so didnt click for a while what it was! Obviously avoid them now!

Ok really can't figure that out?!
NoFashion · 20/05/2021 15:52

Silly autocorrect.

Should have said in reply to @cupsofcoffee

"You really can't figure that out?"

I'm surprised anyone can eat while someone else is vomiting......Envy

Presumably he's not vomiting at the table or over OP's dinner, though?

Someone else being unwell wouldn't stop me from eating my meal, no, especially if I knew it was allergy-related.

FloraFauna27 · 20/05/2021 15:53

I hate the word ‘hurling’ when referencing sick. It makes me feel nauseated myself.

idontlikealdi · 20/05/2021 15:56

Just stop having mushrooms with steak?

sweeneytoddsrazor · 20/05/2021 16:03

I would be helping myself to his mushrooms whilst he was off being ill

RightYesButNo · 20/05/2021 16:06

@cupsofcoffee @NoFashion I think this has to do with the “strength” of your stomach, perhaps. Many people would be put off their meal if they had to listen to someone being violently sick, regardless of the reason, which is why I assume OP stated the bathroom is next to the kitchen, so we’d know her DH didn’t just go be sick on the other side of the house where she wasn’t exposed to it at all. I think a lot of people on the thread, like NoFashion agree, whereas perhaps you don’t, cups. But I do find it a little odd that anyone is surprised people are put off by another person being ill loudly while they’re trying to eat; it would actually be the more common reaction, I think?

Purrsuation · 20/05/2021 16:07

He'd better stick to just steak, tomatoes and chips, perhaps with a sauce like peppercorn.

I am emetophobic, and can't understand why someone being sick wouldn't mean you were put off your dinner!

I'm not surprised, but I personally don't get it. I like my food too much Grin

I'd be like @sweeneytoddsrazor and helping myself to his dinner!

justasking111 · 20/05/2021 16:32

Listening to him puts me off my food. He bought the mushrooms when he saw I had bought steak, and other bits and pieces but not bloody mushrooms. I asked him if he could eat them when I had finished my dinner and left the room he refused.

If he's being stubborn and insisting on eating mushrooms can you have a steak dinner when he's not in?

cabingirl · 20/05/2021 16:55

If you're cooking - just don't cook the mushrooms.

If he's cooking - take your plate and go and eat on the other side of the house if he insists on eating something that makes him ill.
