Stupid women’s clothes sizing in the same shop, same flipping item. Just why?

So one of my main clothes shops is Next. Their clothing is generally fairly good quality, age appropriate for me and not too pricey.
The bloody changing rooms are STILL closed. Why? Just why? I am talking a large flagship store mid week with not really that many shoppers.
Like many women, I need to try several pairs of jeans / trousers before finding one that fits. Closed changing rooms are just a bloody nightmare and mean that I only have about 2 trouser options over the whole winter.
Anyway, I’ve lost a bit of weight over the last 2-3 months and the size jeggins I have are now baggy- ordered them online in desperation during lockdown as my last ones split.
Thankfully these fit ok at the time.
Went to Next to buy the same exact jeggins but a size smaller.
Got to the loos to try them on- they don’t even go over my thighs!!? What on earth. How can one size be baggy and the next size down not even pull up over my thighs? They are exactly the same style from the same shop?
So ridiculous.
How has everyone else coped trouser wise over the last year?

Next are bananas for this stuff. I bought two T-shirts that were supposedly the same size, except they weren’t. Was on a £7.50 each or two for £14 thing.

Tried to return one to swap it for the same size again and the cashier told me I’d have to pay the difference. We went around in circles a bit until she manually adjusted the price.

If I’d changed my mind, one thing, but I’d kept two T-shirts and only had to switch one cos it was a different size to the other, despite both having the same label

I believe each retailer fits to a model, which is fine if that model corresponds to your body shape. However I'm not slim hipped and straight thighed as they generally tend to be so tailored trousers never ever fit me and jeans have to be stretch. Flappy waistbands are my norm. I get that they have to appeal to the widest audience and what looks good but it's infuriating. I hate buying trousers/jeans.
I don't know how these young ladies with improbable 'bubble butts' manage?!

It drives me mad. I ordered 4 things from Warehouse the same size the other week. One fitted OK, one was incredibly tight, the other two I could have fitted another person in there with me they were so big.

And don't even get me started on Hush sizes Angry

Ugh I know. I have slim legs, a slim waist but big boobs and big hips. Trousers are such a nightmare as so many won’t go over my hips or dig in!

I buy a load of options online, try them on in the comfort of my own house and take the ones that are wrong back. Next are great for returns.

When the fitting rooms were closed in M&S I tried jeans on in their loos. I wasn't going to go all the way home then potentially all the way back for a refund.

TheatricalGiraffe · 20/05/2021 13:37

I'm surprised your changing rooms aren't open. The ones in my NEXT are (Fairly bigish store on a retail park)...

In terms of trousers I feel your pain! It's even worse like you said when its the exact same thing! Could it be worth buying the same size again maybe? Have they stretched out since being worn? I have the same with M&S work trousers. One size is literally falling down, i'm yanking it up every two seconds..the size down I can get it on...if I sacrifice my breathing

Years ago I worked for a clothing company that supplied well known high street stores,. If we had an order in for 10 size 8 dresses and 20 size 10s but we only had 15 size 10s made up we were told to relabel some excess size 8s with size 10 labels. Or vice versa. It happened all the time. People in the rag trade always say ignore the label, lgo by how well something fits you.

I have had this with shoes too
Michael kors trainers. Same style (Allie I think) - a 5 in one colour and 6 in another. Another MK pair bought at the same time as a pair of the above trainers, I needed a 4 🙄

@Cowbells Shock Blimey!

BogRollBOGOF · 20/05/2021 15:59

I'm not buying clothes until I can try on in store. I have enough clothes that fit, and no occasions to warrant something new anyway. I don't seem to be a default shape and the majority of what I try on doesn't sit well so I'm not pratting about with buying and returning.

Theunamedcat · 20/05/2021 16:03

Tried on a pair of size 10 jeans they fitted so I picked up a second pair exactly the same style in exactly the same size paid for them both at the till

Only one pair fit
