Can children go on holiday!?

I just can’t work it out - apologies is I’m being dim here

They can’t be vaccinated - so are they allowed on holiday given they can’t be vaccinated?

We have a holiday rebooked from last year - to Malta

I can’t seem to find any definite information anywhere?

YABU - children won’t be able to go without a vaccine

YANBU - your holiday is probably safe

Of course they can, they will have to test the same way us young adults do because we aren’t vaccinated either.

TakeYourFinalPosition · 19/05/2021 12:22

It’ll depend on where you’re going, but yes, I’m not aware of any countries right now who won’t accept a negative test if they’re open to Brits.

edwinbear · 19/05/2021 12:24

They have to be tested, in the same way non-vaccinated adults have to test.

Serenschintte · 19/05/2021 12:24

They can go but they will just need to be tested - and you will pay for that. Will depend what the rules on testing and any quarantine is in the country you are going too. Also the testing rules to return to the Uk.

Malta is currently on the Amber list isn't it? Current guidelines as follows, for adults and children.

Amber list countries and territories

What you must do if you have been in an amber country or territory in the 10 days before you arrive in England.

You must follow these rules even if you have been vaccinated.

Before you travel to England you must:

take a COVID-19 test
book and pay for day 2 and day 8 COVID-19 travel tests – to be taken after arrival in England
complete a passenger locator form

On arrival in England you must:

quarantine at home or in the place you are staying for 10 days
take a COVID-19 test on or before day 2 and on or after day 8

FrozenVag · 19/05/2021 12:40

Ok so if we all have to test then that’s going to be prohibitively expensive so might as well can it ... I have stupidly four children 🤣

My husband reckons they’ll drop the test prices significantly by mid summer

Is anybody else planning on going abroad with kids this year?

I was just hopeful that we could go ahead

When is your trip booked for OP? The rules seem to be changing on an almost daily basis, so if you've had to rebook it once already, I'd probably just sit tight for now and hope it gets downgraded to Green list.

Nisse1 · 19/05/2021 12:45

Children under 4 don't need to test on day 2 or 8.

Alfaix · 19/05/2021 12:47

Going they will need a test depending on what the country they are going to wants.
Coming back, if green they need a test there before departure and another once home on day 2 if they are over 11. Under 11 don’t need to do this test.

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 19/05/2021 12:48

I don't understand the voting Confused

The rules will be whatever they are at the time of travel and unless someone is going this week we simply don't know
Surely all any of us can do is wait and see what we need ro do if/when we travel. There's no way I'd be relying on what any person tells me today about any future travel. How would that work?

NatalieH2220 · 19/05/2021 12:49

I thought kids didn't need to test... but cant seem to find anything that says this now.

We're also hoping to go to Malta in July to visit family. Hoping they'll be off the Amber list by then

changename7634 · 19/05/2021 12:53

Who have you booked through? We've booked through TUI and if it's green when we go our tests purchase via TUI will be £60 each so £240 for family of 4, which is fine by me. If it's amber there are additional tests required but we wouldn't go anyway.

FrozenVag · 19/05/2021 13:21

Air bnb and easyJet combo so we’re on our own re testing

Also One of my kids is autistic and it will be virtually impossible to get him swabbed

TakeYourFinalPosition · 19/05/2021 16:20

I don’t think the testing requirement will go. They might get cheaper, they are cheaper than they are last year; but I think they’re pretty settled now. The price heavily depends on how busy it is around when you’re going... there are £99 options at low demand times. Summer holidays will probably be a bit horrendous, though.

TooMuchYarn · 19/05/2021 16:48

At the moment, most countries want a negative test, irrespective of being vaccinated or not.
That will probably change over the Summer - but possibly not - it's up to each country and would likely depend on where they are with their own vaccinations.
Also bear in mind that you might also need a negative test to return to the UK, and if that showed as Positive you'd need to stay abroad until it was showing Negative (unlikely but possible and you should ensure your insurance covers it, or have the funds to finance that yourself if not).

FrozenVag · 19/05/2021 19:55

Yeah I think I’ll cancel

My son had a full scale panic attack tonight when he hears is talking about being rested to go on holiday

He just can’t cope with it so think we’ll have to cancel everything and wait for next year
