Over the last few weeks I’ve noticed some absolutely appalling driving when I’m going to and from work. I know there’s always been shit driving but it seems a lot worse since restrictions were eased. It’s almost as though they’ve either forgotten how to drive. Today I got stuck in the inside lane behind someone doing about 50 MPH trying to over take a lorry causing a huge tail back. I’ve had been nearly clip me as they overtake me, I’ve seen people pooling along way below the speed limit obvious to the fact they are holding everyone up also so many people not indicating.

@MMM2

Yes some terrible driving at the minute, but even worse parking, why do I now spend most of my walking, on the road so the cars and vans can park fully on the pavement ?
That had started before lockdown too. Councils need to get a grip on it. Taking the offending vehicles to the crusher would be good.
Treaclepie19 · 17/05/2021 19:10

I've noticed this. I've had a few times recently where someone has overtaken when they shouldn't have (not my driving because there's normally a few of us in a line going the speed limit and they speed past nearly crashing into someone on the other side of the road)
It's starting to put me off.

TooBored1 · 17/05/2021 19:16

Yes! Though it's been pretty horrendous round our way (small city) ever since lockdown started. Especially bad if you are trying to walk or cycle to work/school.

Zebra crossings and 20mph limits seem optional, parking on pavements/cycle routes is endemic,no one signals and the speeds are eye watering.

There have been lots of accidents, sometimes involving kids, which is especially sad.

Lanesra1886 · 17/05/2021 19:18

No, it's always been of a very low standard

I drove to Belgium once via France and it was a joy. Everybody indicates, no brain dead middle laners, no potholes, no tailgating, no cameras then as soon as I got to Dover it was back to normal

picturesandpickles · 17/05/2021 19:20

Yes, I think there is quite a bit of speeding and going through red lights.

Do you think people were used to empty roads? Of is it just me being less used to cars?

MotherOfGodWeeFella · 17/05/2021 19:23

There's always been terrible driving, it's just maybe more obvious as lockdown has eased? We live on the edge of the Peak District and there are lots of windy, hilly country roads and people who either drive way too fast or way too slowly and timidly.

byvirtue · 17/05/2021 19:30

Yes me! First time back driving in a city couple of months ago, girl at pedestrian traffic lights waiting to cross road. Light turned red, I stopped she walked across the road and then I drove on. Through a red light!! Kicked myself, I live rurally so driving through a city for the first time in months was bizarre.

PeteWicksSexyPirate · 17/05/2021 19:30

I swear people are driving with their eyes shut listening to the sat nav, careering all over the roads oblivious to anyone else! I’m a new driver and have been crashed into twice while I’ve been stationary. It’s bloody scary!!

78percentLindt · 17/05/2021 19:33

Yes, particularly people driving in the centre of the rural roads, or with one tyre on the faded white line with wing mirrors overhanging. Fed up of nearly ending in the ditch to avoid them. Also the little darling who decided to drive acoss the roundabout painted on the road and thereby cutting up those driving around it.

LostArcher · 17/05/2021 19:37

Yes! I am so fed up of being tailgated by van man and there is a lot of lunacy about. I think it is linked to the rise in litter a sort of I'm complying with lots of rules I don't want to so sod the highway code, and speed limits and Greta T, I'm just going to drive like a loon and chuck litter about.

I actually think we need a public info campaign reminding people about road manners and litter (not at the same time!).

amusedbush · 17/05/2021 19:46

It definitely feels like people have forgotten how to drive. I’ve been driving throughout lockdown due to various commitments and I’ve loved the empty roads but now it feels like someone has left the gate open at the cunt farm.

Recently I pulled onto a large roundabout, heading for the third exit, and a van to my left shot straight across at a ridiculous speed. He didn’t even slow down or look to his right and I had to slam on the breaks while on the roundabout to avoid him taking my bloody bonnet off. Arsehole.

mainsfed · 17/05/2021 19:48

I've noticed male drivers get even more aggressive and entitled.

Isolatedizzy · 17/05/2021 20:17

I think there are 2 sorts of driver around at the moment. Those that haven't driven very much during the last 12 months and those that have had the roads to themselves for 12 months!

People seem to either really fast & driving aggressively right behind you V those doing 30 in a 50!

I think there's going to be loads of accidents over the next few months!

Cherrysoup · 17/05/2021 20:31

Loads of people in the wrong lane who then just zip in front of me without even looking. Weird one tonight, road was flooded to mid way up tyres, so drivers were taking it in turns to go over the highest part of the road ie the middle. A driver going towards the car behind me (I was out of the way ahead) suddenly sped up, raced at the oncoming car and blasted his horn, forcing the other car to swerve into the lake/puddle. Weird. Maybe drivers are just used to having the road to themselves so have lost all patience?

Joonio · 17/05/2021 20:37

Yesterday a 4 by4 overtook me at speed and cut in front without indicating
At the lights he sped off into the outside lane again and was then in the wrong lane to leave the roundabout at the first exit. He raced on anyway..

Neron · 17/05/2021 21:04

Yep. People have forgotten to drive.

Neron · 17/05/2021 21:04

Yep. People have forgotten how to drive.

MinesaBottle · 17/05/2021 21:07

A lot of people seem to have forgotten how to indicate. You’re meant to indicate before pulling out or making a turn, not halfway through Hmm

wonderstuff · 17/05/2021 21:12

Yep, lots of people treating the ring road like it's a race track. I'm thinking about getting a dashcam. Twice I've had people on my right on roundabouts go left.
Think people got too used to quiet roads.

delilahbucket · 17/05/2021 21:16

Yep it's been like it for months. On Friday I witnessed on three separate occasions cars go flying past zebra crossings while I'm stopped on the other side and someone is crossing. A teen very narrowly avoided being hit.
Last weekend we got stuck behind this campervan who was trundling along at 15mph in a 40, constantly breaking, then suddenly stopped in the middle of the road with no warning to say hello to their mate over the road.
I've lost count of how many times people just pull out of junctions without looking or overshoot the junction causing me to swerve or brake. Those things happen daily. People also seem to have forgotten how roundabouts and lanes work. Being in the right turn lane does not mean you decide you are going straight on at that roundabout and cut up the other cars, and vice versa 🤦. And don't even get me started on the people who slam on to let a car out because it's polite FFS.

Murraytheskull · 17/05/2021 21:16

I've seen a lot of the behaviour already described above. I think part of the problem is the chances of being pulled over by police for dangerous and/or stupid driving is nil, so there won't be any repercussions for all the near-misses people are seeing daily.

WhipperSnapperSteve · 17/05/2021 21:18

Was turning right out of my estate onto a busy road. There's a zebra crossing just to the left and people were crossing so I pulled out, some idiot deciding to do 60/70 (in a 30) screaming down the main road, on his phone, nearly crashed into me, then he proclaims it was my fault. He had to emergency stop.

left the gate open at the cunt farm

Great analogy, I'm so stealing it!

Ostara212 · 17/05/2021 21:20

I've been noticing since last year

Is it maybe because lots of cars now have screens where you can read texts etc? It is noticeable.

A pp said lower chance of being pulled over - is there? Have traffic police been diverted?

There's a lot of unsteady cyclists about too, noticed that last year as well.

SilentBob · 17/05/2021 21:22

Yup, but my feeling is that this particular part of one particular motorway is prone to cunts anyway.

The Rocket, Liverpool- eastbound on the M62.

AlmostSummer21 · 17/05/2021 21:25

Definitely. It's like all the zoo animals have been given the keys!!
