To think I can get two lots of SMP?

I have two part time jobs which make up practically a full week. I have been reading about mat pay as I'm due my first baby and from what I can see as I have two jobs I can claim two lots of SMP or am I understanding it right?? Has anyone experienced this?? Thank you

An extra 151 a week would be great!!

No, it will just be one lot of SMP

milkytwilight · 15/05/2021 20:13

Do you reach the lower earnings limit for SMP? And fulfil the other criteria, how long you've been employed by them etc? You can get SMP from two jobs but cannot mix and match SMP and maternity allowance. So you would need to qualify in both jobs for SMP. Otherwise you would only be entitled to SMP from 1.

This isn't true. Provided you meet the eligibility completely in both jobs, you can qualify for two lots of SMP
slurpyburbybaby · 15/05/2021 20:19

I have been In one job for 5 years and the other for 3. As far as o can see I meet all of the criteria yes

Do you earn an average of £120 per week from both, in their own right?

slurpyburbybaby · 15/05/2021 20:22

I don't know about maternity allowance but I will get my OMP from both do that led me to looking in to the SMP From both then iyswim

If you meet the lower earnings limit you can get from both, I did in my previous pregnancy and I'm still in 2 roles now going off shortly and have had both confirmed

slurpyburbybaby · 15/05/2021 20:25

@milkytwilight I earn just over 1100 per month from one job and about 1200 per month from the other, so yes.

@ChunkyButFunky87 fantastic thank you!! 👍

milkytwilight · 15/05/2021 20:27

Then yes, no reason why you shouldn't get SMP from both.

ChunkyButFunky87 · 15/05/2021 20:29

@slurpyburbybaby no prob Smile it was a huge help, neither of my employments do additional occupational pay but having x 2 SMP I just about survived

Fluteytooting · 15/05/2021 20:30

I was paid 2 lots during my first mat leave so it definitely is possible!

Pbbananabagel · 15/05/2021 20:37

Have to say this is kind of heartbreaking to know as someone who works 50+ hour weeks but can only claim one lot of smp.

I hear you.
slurpyburbybaby · 15/05/2021 20:51

@Pbbananabagel I can see where your coming from.

OP posts:
PinkSnowAndStars · 15/05/2021 20:59

Yes you can.

I did with my second in 2018!

FartleBarfle · 15/05/2021 21:07

It's great that you can claim two lots, if be chuffed too. But its also so weird that this happens! I thought there was a certain amount of SMP per baby, rather than job. The reason that's annoying is I want to share leave with my husband but in doing so I have to sacrifice my maternity pay for each week he takes. As we have a job each, it seems silly that he can't get his own entitlement if someone else can claim two jobs - if that makes sense.

I'm still happy for you, I just think there needs to be more done to make it equal for men and women. I have recently found out my 90% pay is calculated from my bonus month, so I'll essentially be earning more than I normally do during that time, so I'm feeling pretty lucky too!

Good luck and enjoy x

slurpyburbybaby · 15/05/2021 21:39

@FartleBarfle that's great that it works out that way for you! I can see exactly where you're coming from tbh. It is a strange entitlement.

@slurpyburbybaby just wanted to add - not holding it against you for a second!

C25KDropOut · 15/05/2021 22:02

Wow I never would have thought of this. I work part time and also usually work one shift per week through an agency: have just worked out that as long as I earn an average of £120 per week for 8 weeks (bit confusing to work out which 8 weeks), I'd be entitled to just over 4k in extra SMP! Shock

Ttc atm so this is very good to know! Seems a bit mental to be able to claim it twice though, I'm sure my friends who have already had babies and are in a similar position didn't know that they could claim for both jobs.

slurpyburbybaby · 15/05/2021 22:25

@C25KDropOut yeah it seems it's not something that is widely known or advertised (for want of a better word!) it's. Shame as I'm sure lots of women have missed out on it.

Yes it's a handy loophole for some, I didn't manage to get a second job in time ...they offered it a week too late. Oh well.

Thisismyusername1 · 15/05/2021 22:32

Yes I had two part time jobs when I had my first child and got two lots of SMP, only issue I had was having to give one of my employers a photocopy of the MATB1 form as midwife could only provide one copy

slurpyburbybaby · 15/05/2021 23:23

@SnackSizeRaisin I wouldn't call it a loophole as such..just a somewhat strange and unfair entitlement. Kind of like the whole child benefits for a set of parts who both earn 49k but reduced benefits for a single parent who earns over 50k
