If you live in a quiet, safe area with lots of families and other kids, a cul-de-sac and no main roads?

I've been saying 7pm latest.

The reason I've been saying that is based on what we did with our eldest DC but we were living in a not-so-nice area, main road, no families or other kids near by.

AIBU to say 7?

Or is 8 more acceptable?

What do the masses do?

Our 10yo dd can stay out til 830

Ratatattatpat · 15/05/2021 19:45

9pm

Mumdiva99 · 15/05/2021 19:45

Depends on road, kids and what they are doing. I might have said 7:00 on a school night so he had time to come in and wind down before bed.....but I was stricter on my eldest than I am on my youngest.....he would probably get away with 8pm.

(Although do be considerate of the neighbours.....2 years ago all the boys used to play football right outside my then 7 year olds bedroom window till after his bedtime and it was a pain as it kept him awake.)

MrsWooster · 15/05/2021 19:45

8 ish.

Ratatattatpat · 15/05/2021 19:46

Should have added as long as it isn't dark outside.

Moonshine11 · 15/05/2021 19:47

I would say 8ish

MovinOnUp · 15/05/2021 19:48

7 on a school night.
8.30 at the weekends.

Sometimesonly · 15/05/2021 19:49

I normally say 7.30 as that is when he has to come in for dinner!

DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 15/05/2021 19:49

Ok you have given me a bit of perspective.

Thanks for your help.

I call my nearly 10 year old in at 7.30, but leave her longer if it’s an usually warm and lovely evening or if the game she is playing looks particularly good fun. 8pm would be my cut off.

Smartiepants79 · 15/05/2021 19:53

Well my 10 year old is in bed by 8:30! So well before that!
She needs her sleep and has to be up to leave for school by 8.
I would have said 8 was deflate enough on a school day.

Rabbitheadlights · 15/05/2021 19:53

Crikey you guys make me feel like a mean old witch, my DD15 is 8pm (though she rarely goes out in the evening usually daytime shopping etc) and DS12 is 7pm

They've never moaned about it though Hmm

DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 15/05/2021 19:54

Stupid thing is, my hold is tighter on my kids than it was for me as a child.

But I grew up in a naice area.

We have lived in some interesting cities that are less child friendly. And a little more hypodermic needle.
Finding it hard to adjust my feelings on letting things go a bit.

We've always eaten at 7pm (ish) so they'd come i to eat and wouldnt bkther going back out after that.

On a summer's evening 2 when meal times went out of the window, I'd say 8pm.

So is mine. Which is another bone of contention. Any later and his teachers ask why he yawns so much and he has bags under his eyes, so that's a time that isn't going to change for a while yet.

6pm, very occasionally 630pm because that’s when we eat.

OhMyAttic · 15/05/2021 20:00

Bed time is 730 on a school night, 8 pm if not.

PennyinmyPocket · 15/05/2021 20:09

Mine are all grown up now but at 10 they were allowed out to play until 7pm. Then came in to eat and a shower before bed, during school days. Weekends and holidays (during the spring/summer) they were allowed to stay out until 8pm.
