To think this woman is full of BS? MLM

goldbeyondtherainbow · 15/05/2021 16:23

A woman I know works for a well known MLM company and posts the usual daily affirmations, super positive posts about how life is wonderful and she's doing so well.

In her post today (fishing for new recruits) she claims to earn 10k per month, or at least has on multiple occasions.

AIBU to think that's a blatant lie?

What do they actually make?

As far as I knew the vast majority of them lose money rather than make any, unless you got in early and are in the top few percent which this woman isn't.

Until you start to parasitically feed off those friends and acquaintances as you recruit then. Then you can make £1500!

ThatIsMyPotato · 16/05/2021 09:47

@Bengal12 your IVF comment was nasty. You are clearly not her friend.

fruitloop2021 · 16/05/2021 09:47

YANBU.

All my friends who do MLM actually make a loss as they put freebies in to get more people to buy... I'm not really sure why they continue to do it really.

Chillychangchoo · 16/05/2021 09:48

Complete bullshit. Especially the “wax melt” one that’s doing the rounds.

Amazes me how thick and gullible some people are.

ThatIsMyPotato · 16/05/2021 09:51

I think they all buy off each other

Crankley · 16/05/2021 09:53

These bots turn into massive liars. My goddaughter had cancer. Her mother, my friend, was asked by an aloe vera seller if she wanted to buy any products. Friend said no and explained too busy and concerned for daughter's health to which she responded that aloe vera cured cancer. My goddaughter died and she asked again. Despicable.

KatherineOfGaunt · 16/05/2021 10:05

I hate MLMs. There's a local indy craft shop that craters can hire space in to sell their stuff. I was interested, but not when I saw that they stock Forever Living and Usborne Books. These products are a) not crafts and b) not from local crafters. I wish they would realise they're peddling MLM stuff to the masses for these sales reps. Because that's what they are: sales reps. Not business owners.

OP, there's a small chance they made 10k in turnover, if they have a reasonable-sized downline, but once you take out expenses, tax etc. the actual net profit is going to be much, much less! But these companies encourage their sales reps to only focus on turnover and happily ignore how much they actually spent on products themselves.

And I often wonder how many of these women are registered for tax. If you earn over 1k in a year then you should be registered as a sole trader. That might make them see just how much they aren't making is they had to submit a tax return!

MissGendered · 16/05/2021 10:09

Do they actually change companies or does the company constantly change its name? I have a mlm bot friend that changes all the time and her bot friends seem to move with her at the same time. We've just had a 30 day countdown to prelaunch a new company (selling the exact same shit as the last one) now it's 90 days of growth which requires several posts per day. Every post has around 50 comments from the same people that all work for the company.

Even though I do snigger at some of the motivational posts or 'bossing it' memes I try not to judge her. These awful companies prey on the vulnerable and the bots are just victims of a massive ponzi scheme. The government really should step in and make it illegal for companies to operate like this.

RaspberryCoulis · 16/05/2021 10:17

Yeah she's lying.

Either it's an all-out, blatant lie (probably)

or

She's been sucked deeper into the MLM than you think and is spending £££ on buying product to try to flog, and writing the cost of as sales.

But £10k a month flogging anything on MLM? No chance. Unless she lives in Utah and is one of the pyramid scheme founders.

rooarsome · 16/05/2021 10:43

A friend of mine got sucked into this. She was posting photos of paychecks showing about 4K a month, personal details blurred out. A quick google image search showed this was fake.

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 16/05/2021 10:43

Total bullshit.

Chances are she'll be losing money

Atalantea · 16/05/2021 10:53

I'm on a Facebook group, www.facebook.com/groups/193759031956337/

And someone posted about how to store perfumes, and loads of FM huns pounced, "oh I sell that too!!"

I just looked for the post, but couldn't find it, but Stacy is selling too by the look of it

StrapOnSallyChasedMeDownTheAli · 16/05/2021 11:06

If it was really possible to make 10k a month selling shite do you really think that they would have to try so hard to recruit; people should be queuing round the block to sign up...but they don't because most people know it's shite, just like the products they sell.

RaspberryCoulis · 16/05/2021 11:21

If it was really possible to make £10k a month selling shite then why would you be trying to get other people to join and reduce your customer base?

Makes no sense. So many on the hun-bots have zero common sense and critical thinking.

goldbeyondtherainbow · 16/05/2021 11:22

She doesn't have a 'normal' job as far as I know so must be earning something, but I don't buy the 10k a month.

She posts quite candidly about her life and is open about having gone through periods of severe MH problems so perhaps her MLM is supplemented by disability benefits of some sort (I'm not judging her for that, if she's unwell then she's entitled to it)

She's got a primary age child so will get something for them, either CM or tax credits.

What doesn't well with me is that she's blatantly targeting single stay at home mothers in her posts, saying she can help them out of the poverty trap and make their lives so much better.

Its Juice Plus she sells.

OP posts:
goldbeyondtherainbow · 16/05/2021 11:23

Somebody commented on her post yesterday and said if she's doing well then it's only because she's earning commission from everybody she signs up, she responded to say that she doesn't receive commission at all Confused

Looneytune253 · 16/05/2021 11:27

I don't agree with MLMs in general terms but my relative works for Ann Summers and does very very well. I was also very involved with Avon once and there were actual people earning hundreds of thousands a year. This was real people I knew with huge teams not just marketing from the company. Obv it takes a certain level of commitment to get there and it only works for those that go to the top. I wouldn't bother with any of them tho. The ones at the top only make their money from all the people that don't actually end up earning much. A lot of people lie about their earnings to draw people in. I'm guessing that is the case with the lady you're talking about. It's part of the training in some of the ruthless mlms such as younique/herballife etc

acatcalledjohn · 16/05/2021 11:33

If she earns £10k a month she doesn't she has to shift around £180k of product a month based on the average commission of 6% (source: https://lazymoneymaking.com/juice-plus-money-making-opportunity-or-not). As if.

I'd be asking her to share proof of her income claim, as well as an income disclosure statement for Juice Plus in the UK. She'll block you, but that would be the trash taking itself out. She's not allowed to make income claims.

ElphabaTWitch · 16/05/2021 11:35

I would say lie. Have you seen how tick tockers and other sm ‘influencers’ ( can’t help but snigger at the ridiculousness of that). Make their videos etc? It’s all
Smoke mirrors lies and untruths. Total
Fabrication I would imagine.

Amdone123 · 16/05/2021 11:35

Of course she's not earning that, it's laughable. And, as per pp, what about tax ? She must paying an awful lot....
What fascinates me the most about these type of boasts ( ffs, who posts a pic of their paycheck??!), is that these people assume that everyone is interested in earning copious amounts of money. Not everyone is bothered about money. For that reason, I would comment, How lovely.
She's making herself a laughing stock. At least make the figure realistic!

Febo24 · 16/05/2021 11:37

Also, those that get the cars, if you ever see those, it's also smoke and mirrors. Apparently they are leased and the victims get suckered into contacts. Never the company. And then they post about how they've been 'given' the car.

Linked is crypo currency stuff as well. Have a listen to The Missing Crypo Queen.

acatcalledjohn · 16/05/2021 11:38

I'm going to stand up for @Bengal12 here and the IVF comment.

This hun she refers to has made the claim about JP curing all sorts, including the incurable condition that is autism. That in itself is an abhorrent & ableist claim to make. Given that this same hun has been unable to conceive naturally, the cognitive dissonance going on there is really quite staggering, and I think that is the point Begal is, perhaps slightly clumsily, trying to make.

It highlights the lengths huns will go to in order to lure in new victims.

LindaEllen · 16/05/2021 11:45

She may very well sell 10k a month (i.e. that's how much she makes in sales and gets off her customers) but then she has to actually purchase the products to give to them, so all she's left with is her commission. There are some people who can do very well from these things if they have a decent network and the right kind of attitude - but the vast majority of people make very little and it's far too much effort for far too little money.

goldbeyondtherainbow · 16/05/2021 11:46

Apparently she (and her downlines) have signed up over 200 new women in the past 24 hours, they're running a promotion where they wave the £50 sign up fee and you get to join for free.

Can you imagine how many people will be getting those "hey girl" inboxes now.

That is right. The huns who make the car plan type benefit sign a lease with the dealership and are thus solely liable for the payments. The MLM company has no responsibility there. And if you have noticed, they are never cheap makes either (you can't just pick a car, it has to be a white merc for example) so we are not just talking a £200/month lease payment. Most people can't easily afford a sudden £300-£500 month shortfall once, let alone repeatedly. But they'll be tied in to a lease in their name.

And bearing in mind that the MLM companies reserve the right to change their bonus structure at any point make targets harder to hit, Huns previously hitting targets for car plan are now no longer able to hit those targets yet remain solely responsible for their 3 year lease agreement.
