Just out of interest

My doctor has had the door locked since last March, and as far as I can see does nothing. So there would never be a phone call.

Lemonlady22 · 15/05/2021 22:11

I never believe what they tell me ever since a receptionist told me 'they are fine', then I ended up in hospital having a blood transfusion ...I always ask for a print out now!

RandomMess · 15/05/2021 22:18

My DD once had a failed swab. So there I was for months think it was clear not that it should have been redone AngryAngryAngryAngryAngryAngry

What happened was of course the condition got worse which is how I then discovered the last swab hadn't worked.

Beyond fuming about the whole mis and failed diagnosis her suffering and the triggering of psoriasis aged 2 due to GP and they practice procedures incompetence.

KatieB55 · 15/05/2021 22:41

Receptionist once said results were fine. Asked for a print & found they weren't!

goose1964 · 15/05/2021 22:52

No,but I've had to see my GP about results which they've rung about. I have regular tests owing to medication.

ValidUser · 15/05/2021 23:19

I'm a doctor, but not a GP. I call my patients to let them know either way.

Accidentallydeletedoopsss · 15/05/2021 23:21

No

QueenOfTheDoubleWide · 15/05/2021 23:25

I work in a surgery and our doctors review all the blood results.

Most are marked "Normal" or "Normal for Patient" and no action is needed, some are forwarded to the practice pharmacist who will arrange medication to be added or amended as needed and the doctors ring those who have anything of note

steff13 · 15/05/2021 23:56

I'm in the US, and my doctor uses My Chart. I don't know if you all have that? I had bloodwork yesterday morning, and the results were uploaded to My Chart last night, so I've already seen them. She will review them Monday and send me a message via My Chart regardless of the results.

yikesanotherbooboo · 16/05/2021 07:54

At our surgery patients have to ring for their results. It is often the case that after a blood test normal or abnormal we need to see or speak to the patient in which case we usually text to say make an appointment. There is always an expectation that the patient will contact. OP being asked to make an appointment could mean anything. Just do it.

fairgame84 · 16/05/2021 07:59

Mine don't even call if they are abnormal. They left me with a ferritin of 2 for 10 days before I called them because I still felt shit Hmm
When I queried this with the receptionist she said it was my responsibility to chase up my results. I told her I assumed they would call if they were abnormal as presumably they didn't want patients clogging up the busy phone lines if results are normal but no.
Then when you do call for your abnormal results, the receptionist tells you the wrong thing, such as your b12 is really low when actually it's your ferritin.

kimlo · 16/05/2021 08:03

my dr rings if it's very urgent.

Otherwise you either ring and are told it's normal or that you need to make a phone appointment with the dr. Or you can look at the results on the app.

I once rang and was told I needed an appointment, then I got a letter saying I needed to make an appointment. I had a phone appointment and the dr said there was nothing wrong and why was she speaking to me. Turns out the cold I had at the time that had raised the levels of something.

PinkDaffodil2 · 16/05/2021 08:16

Our doctor calls that day if it’s urgent. If it’s very urgent and your doctor isn’t in that day then a different doctor calls as they keep an eye on each other’s results.
If it’s abnormal but doesn’t need same day discussion then doctor gets reception call you to make an urgent / routine appointment either telephone or face to face with the doctor / diabetic nurse / pharmacist etc depending.
If it’s very straightforward like low vitamin D you get a text with information about replacement.
Normal results get marked as normal or normal for the patient on the record but the patient won’t be told unless they call reception or have a follow up appointment booked.

CorianderBee · 16/05/2021 09:36

Mine did because I asked her to. She always calls after tests to let me know if everything's fine.
