I have really poor mental health caused by nightmare neighbours. The weekend wI'll be constant noise from them all day and it totally messes with my head. I can't ask them to turn it down as they reacted badly before when I did. I don't feel like I can relax in my own home.

Wibu to stay in a hotel for a night? I'm in England so restrictions are still in place that you can't stay in a hotel without a reason listed on the government website.

Do it. I've stayed in several hotels throughout.

When I booked I just had to tick a box on the internet booking form to say my stay was allowed under current government restrictions.

No one cross examined me when I checked in!

Just do it, OP. It's for your mental health.

@Vintagevixen and @JesusIsAnyNameFree Thank you both for your replies. It'll be travelodge style accommodation. I won't have to prove why I need to stay will I?

Make up a reason.
Do it!
Long term though clearly need a better solution Flowers

I stayed in a travelodge Tuesday night as I was going to a funeral the next day. No-one asked me about my exemption.

Just a word of advice, certain hotels do ask why you are staying, they also require proof of your stay, most are only opened for key workers until Monday. I know this as I work in 1

Tell them you’re escaping domestic abuse for your mental health, pretty close to the truth. Can you get any support to deal with the neighbours? It’s sad that you are having to do this to get some peace.

Don’t do this! The hotel will contact the police and the police have to act on DV tip offs. You will be in a lot of trouble for wasting their time and may divert them from a real DV incident.

@TeddingtonTrashbag I've worked in a number of hotels and unless said abuse was clearly taking place within the hotel they absolutely would not contact the police. Hotel staff are not carers or guardians or personal security. They're (often poorly paid) workers who for the most part genuinely couldn't care less why any given guest is staying.

I wouldn't say escaping domestic abuse but because the OP isn't, not because the hotel would do anything about it.

ImInStealthMode · 16/05/2021 14:40

To offer another suggestion to the OP, if it's noise at home that's the issue maybe you could invest in a good pair of noise-cancelling headphones as an interim solution?

Even if it just meant you could sit and have a cup of tea in silence now and then it might help your MH? Or you could wear them for longer and play something relaxing, a good audio book, music that you like, interesting podcasts. Anything to take away the background noise that's the issue.

I stayed one night in the local pub under lockdown 2, because I’d just bought a house and my furniture was arriving next day. Nobody questioned it.

RantyAnty · 16/05/2021 15:11

Yes, of course. Go and enjoy the peace and quiet.

Are you still planning to move?

2nd good noise cancelling headphones. Sitting here with my Sony WH-1000XM4 on and it's peace and quiet.
