To be happy just to see people outside still.

Pretty cautious with covid. I've had my first vaccination but not second, dp hasn't had his first dose yet. DS is somewhat vulnerable to the virus.

Our families want to go back to normal seeing each other in the house but aibu to just say we will stick to outside for now? I mean you can only see 6 or 2 families inside from Monday anyway?

Being summer and when it doesn't rain it's lovely 👀 I have a large garden and family can come around.

I just feel with the risk of transmission being significantly lower outside why not just stick to being outside?

In all honesty I've learnt that I prefer seeing family outdoors in general. I get a bit agitated and claustrophobic in a house with lots of people (seems a long time ago now). I find my kids are better behaved outside too. They are both autistic and a house full of people can often trigger them - they are much more relaxed out in the open.

Also our families don't really take it seriously! They are always mixing with lots of people despite the rules and I feel we are safer if we just see them outside.

Aibu? Just because we can see each other indoors doesn't mean we are obliged to by our families right?!

As for friends. Our closest friends are pretty cautious too so they don't mind being outside if the weather allows!

I just can't stand people in my house at the best of times 😂

Do what you want. But it shouldn't have to be that way for everyone. I live in the North East it's not particularly warm here. It's still way too cold to see my 85 year old grandma outside. Not every one can easily meet outdoors.

YANBU

If you prefer seeing people outside then do so. It's up to you.

DDiva · 14/05/2021 16:16

You font have to do anything you're not comfortable with.

But where are you that its summer and nice to see people outside ? Here it's been cold and windy for ages and outside meets have def not been enjoyable.

BackforGood · 14/05/2021 16:19

Of course YANBU.
It is just such a shame it has been so cold and wet in so much of the country.
Last Summer it was so much better / nicer.

boredbuttercup · 14/05/2021 16:23

YANBU, do whatever you're comfortable with. You're an adult, you're free to make your own choices.

Don't be surprised or pissed off with them if your family/friends turn down 'outside only' invites though. I was happy to see people outside when it was the only way but now we're allowed inside I wouldn't be seeing someone if they insisted we stay outside no matter what. I don't like the cold wet so if the weathers bad thats a no, and I have bad hay fever so even if it's lovely spending extended time outside make that flare up, I'd rather just turn down the invite. You've made your choice, they can make theirs.

I agree that just because you can doesn't mean you have to. Especially (from a Covid point of view) if the people you're likely to see don't stick to guidance in the same way you do!

If your family are resistant to the idea, I'd suggest naturally outdoor specific invitations which seem quite natural for the summer, such as inviting them for a BBQ or to a local outdoor attraction (National Trust or similar).

I'm currently pregnant and planning to stick to social interaction outdoors as much as I can this summer, especially if I'm seeing more than one or two people or I know that the people I'm seeing aren't particularly sensible re socialising or following guidance. I certainly won't sit indoors in pubs or restaurants (outdoors would be fine, though!). I'll relax once I've given birth (I just don't want to get Covid while pregnant, especially with the extra risk in the third trimester). I will be seeing my parents indoors with my toddler this week and that's about as far as I'll go with indoor interaction at the moment!

Poppins2016 · 14/05/2021 16:44

P.s. I agree with the PPs who say you might need to accept that invitations may be declined if the weather is miserable... there is nothing worse than trying to pretend not to be cold, especially when there is an alternative! In your shoes I'd just issue invitations for good (e.g. BBQ) weather!

Don't expect many guests visiting

skippy67 · 14/05/2021 16:45

Just do what you want.

jumpbounce · 14/05/2021 16:50

I agree OP and will continue to only meet outdoors we have a vulnerable DC. If people don't agree with us and support us to keep our child safe then to be honest they aren't people I would want to be meeting up with anyways so they can make their own decision the same way I can.

Oh absolutely. I totally understand that. My main concern is that my family don't take it seriously and don't really want them in my house. My grandmother is 80 and doesn't like it outside much too 💕

Good with me! 😂 I prefer my own company anyway!

Thanks all! I didn't mean in my post that others should do the same. We can all do what we want (sticking to the rules of course). I am just happy to stay outside. I live in the southwest. We've had ratings days but some beautiful sunny days too - not overly warm yet but comfortable. It's not just about covid. I've learnt that my children get less triggered and 'over excited' by seeing people outside rather than in!

I like my own company anyway so I'm happy regardless of whether people visit or not!
