To not know what to buy DS for a wedding

Hi all,

DH, DS and I have been invited to a somewhat formal wedding this year. It will be at a country manor in July. DS is 4.

I have no idea what to dress him in? At the risk of coming across wrong, all the little suits I have seen look sort of cheap and tacky. But I can't find anything else?

Could I just buy smart trousers and a smart top? What shoes? A bow tie?

AIBU to have no clue how to not dress DS, 4 years on?!

@Antiqueanniesmagiclanternshow

I dressed my 4 year old is a cream linen waistcoat and shorts combp with an open necked white linen shirt. It was smart but little boyish and cool and comfortable. He looked gorgeous too!
My 3 year old wore something like this to a family wedding - it was perfect.

I've usually dressed my son in a funky printed monsoon shirt with retro shorts or linen trousers from Little Green Radicals. Or linen dungarees with a Peter Pan collar top, that's or closed toe sandals. Smart but not a suit, summer clothes are easier for this. Actually at all the weddings I've been to most of the kids have not been smart at all and changing to pyjamas quote soon for the reception which I thought was odd for older kids.

I came on to say linen shorts and monsoon but I see you have it all in hand.
Sure he will look super OP.

No waistcoats/suits/bowties - they look tacky, you're right.

The little shorts sets look lovely. I’m sure he will look gorgeous!
We’ve always gone with kilts and a wee shirt/waistcoat in our family foe my nephews.... but we’re Scottish (obvious from the kilts!)
