To think this is not my fault? (Work related)

I don’t want to be too outing and cause trouble but anyway I fought for months for my manager to take me seriously when asking for support in regards to a small part of my work (regarding my mental health it suffered and that’s why I asked for help).

I was still doing the job required even without the support and if introduced it wouldn’t have impacted that or made more work for others. In fact for a long time they made the task more difficult for me.

It upset me greatly, it ate away at me into my life outside work and I felt worthless. I was very honest about this to my manager (always in private as have other members of the team literally shouting in meetings) and now my end of year performance has been severely downgraded as I in their opinion hadn’t acted professionally.

What they don’t consider is how they acted and they purposely didn’t give me any help for months despite begging them and I reached breaking point because I’m a human being. Only then did they actually support me.

They are a big company, so many others in team have a massive amount of support (including the exact support I asked for) and they are huge advocates of mental health awareness.

Aw, I’m sorry your mental health has suffered. On face value it sounds like you are right to me. I hope it gets sorted xx

I would go to your line managers manager and complain about how unprofessional they’ve been. You asked for help, that’s not unprofessional that’s smart and you shouldn’t be punished for it,

Honestly without more details it’s hard to say one way or another. With that being said, are looking for support here, advice, something else?

Wineat5isfine · 11/05/2021 23:48

So sorry you are going through this. Such an awful experience! Have you involved HR or a POC to take notes during meetings etc?

I went through a hellish time at a previous role 3 years ago. I’d been there for 12 years. Got thrown under a bus and it has resulted in serious MH issues...and I would do anything to change this as it’s ruined my life.

Please get someone / people on side, document everything and get the help that you need. Companies should not be allowed to do this!

Good luck xx

when asking for support in regards to a small part of my work
it's impossible to advise without more details unfortunately.

IFiredUpTheQuattro · 11/05/2021 23:52

Are you in a union? if not then join one, have a meeting with them and decide what you want to do going forward.

TwoAndAnOnion · 12/05/2021 07:42

I'd put this over in legal - they will advise you.

Going forward m document everything
