I’m coming up to 26 and I’m still referred to as a young lady

Not the drs but the Tesco’s driver called me young lady the other day, I’m 32 😐

jakalaka · 11/05/2021 22:12

Nearly 40, still happening. Do not look remotely young! More than half grey.

pearpickingporky84 · 11/05/2021 22:12

I reckon it depends on the age of the doctor, my definition of young has definitely changed over time Smile

Palavah · 11/05/2021 22:14

At least 35.

BoyTree · 11/05/2021 22:14

I'm 40 and a Dr called me 'so young' the other day. I was flattered until he revealed that he was younger than me!!

Beatinghearts · 11/05/2021 22:17

I would say this doctor is late 40’s so not old but old enough to be my parent I guess so I probably feel young to them.

minipie · 11/05/2021 22:20

Errr 26 is young in anyone’s book!

TrinidadQueen · 11/05/2021 22:21

A relative who is midthirties always gets told she is young by doctors. Maybe in medical terms it's different as I don't consider that young.

romdowa · 11/05/2021 22:22

I'm 32 and met a Dr who referred to me as a young mother to be! I had to double check that he realised my age.

DramaAlpaca · 11/05/2021 22:23

Of course you're young, OP, you're 26!

I have a son your age Smile

Karwomannghia · 11/05/2021 22:23

I guess it depends on the medical condition you’re seeing them for and what the average age is for that!

Dita73 · 11/05/2021 22:26

I got called that today! I’m 47! I was chuffed to bits! Then I realised it’s the face masks that work wonders

Definately · 11/05/2021 22:27

They're saying it much less now I'm past 35 Sad

Illstartexercisingtomorrow · 11/05/2021 22:28

Surely it’s relative?

60 = not young

Died of a heart attack at 60 = died ‘young’

DukeOfEarlGrey · 11/05/2021 22:28

I’m 40 and still get called young by my doctor, but also constantly by senior colleagues that aren’t necessarily much older than me. I like when the doctor does it, colleagues not so much Hmm

Slippy78 · 11/05/2021 22:30

I'm 43. The vast majority of older customers I serve at work call me 'young man'.

ThePontiacBandit · 11/05/2021 22:30

I think it also depends on the medical speciality. I’m almost 40...for example, in midwifery terms, I’d be an older mother. However I have been treated by dermatology recently for a Basal Cell Carcinoma (skin cancer). Three different doctors have said I’m “young” to have this kind of issue. Apparently it’s most common in over 55s and especially people in their 70s plus. Since it’s my 40th this year, I keep saying “It’s very nice to be told I’m young!”.

LaurieFairyCake · 11/05/2021 22:31

My DH went to the doctor at 39 with various issues - he got 'hey you're young, we will work out what's wrong'

At 41 he went with the same issues and got

"You're over 40, you now have to expect things to break down"

Mrbob · 11/05/2021 22:33

Most of our patients are in their 70s and 80s. So yes you are young and you will be for some time

AlbertCampion · 11/05/2021 22:34

I am 45 and undergoing cancer treatment. Probably the only perk is that my oncologist refers to me as "young lady".Grin

Purpleweeks · 11/05/2021 22:36

As long as you are not pregnant, then you jump to being geriatric at 40.

OhRene · 11/05/2021 22:44

My kidney consultant called me a young lady in his report/letter.

I'm nearly 40.

Well done, Kidney consultant. Well done.

OhRene · 11/05/2021 22:45

Oh and I think he was maybe my age or younger.

Taylot · 11/05/2021 23:04

65 for inpatients, 45 for outpatients

Ilovemaisie · 11/05/2021 23:07

I had my baby when I was almost 33. I vaguely remember being told that 34 is when they start calling you an 'older mother' (there's a Latin phrase I think that goes on your maternity records !!)
