DS 17 months woke from his nap at 1pm with a temp, I gave him neurofen and he was fine until about 5ish, then his temp spiked and he was sick, back to being fine after a chunder. Gave calpol around 5:40pm and he’s been in bed since about half 7 and still cool and no vomiting.

I have health anxiety and I’m so so worried, he had a tummy bug that followed a similar pattern in November 2020 but still I am so so anxious. He’s fine until his temperature spikes, once it comes down he’s happy and babbling away.

Reassurance please.

What is babies temp?

Sadieeloise5687 · 11/05/2021 22:08

Temperatures can make babies seem very sick. When the temperature comes down they seem normal again.

I would give Calpol not neurofen as a first medicine. Neurofen can cause harm to the kidneys if used a lot. I tend to save it for when calpol doesn’t work alone.

With just a temp and vomiting as symptoms there so much it could be. You just need to keep an eye and take to the doctor if worried. These are things which can indicate it’s something serious

It’s most likely a tummy bug ?

Back at nursery recently?

Mine is same age and similar. Also snotty nose and cough! Hasn't been sick though. Plenty of bugs art that age, especially when mixing with other kids.

Don't worry OP, but do get a second opinion if you're concerned.

Ring 111 and get proper medical advice. Temperatures are common and almost aways nothing to worry about but there are some red flag signs to watch out for.

You also need to isolate and arrange a covid test for him.

Sadieeloise5687 · 11/05/2021 22:19

Ps where do you get your health anxiety from? Has he been very sick before or did you have a difficult birth?

You need to find a strategy that works for you for coping. I posted that nhs link because I used objective facts to quell any anxiety I get. I look at the symptoms and then look at the list of what a serious illness would have for symptoms and then I reassure myself it’s nothing serious. I find it’s the unknown that’s scary. If I educate myself as to what to look out for /what to worry about it’s all less scary.

There's lots of other bugs going around schools/nurseries at the moment. You need to isolate and book a Covid test though due to the temperature. Our nursery/school wouldn't let you back without one.

I gave him calpol at around 10 last night as a precaution. No temp spikes since half 5 yesterday so I’m wondering if he’s over it. Just a runny nose and a very whingy DS
