To be concerned about neighbours getting a new puppy

I’m slightly miffed at our upstairs neighbours and can’t decide if AIBU.

For context, I live in a flat which is in a converted house so I only have one neighbour - the upstairs flat.

They have wooden floors so can hear them walking around, but so far it’s not been an issue.

They got a puppy at the start of lockdown and generally this has been fine - I can hear it running around but no major problems.

They came home last week with a new puppy and already the noise has doubled. I’m also concerned about the dogs - I’ve never had any but it seems unusual to get two pedigree puppies within the space of a year (they are different breeds). The upstairs flat has no outdoor space so there’s now constant noise from the front door opening and closing.

AIBU to think it’s a bit odd / annoying to get two large dogs in a set up of this type?

@Chihuahuacat

Check the lease as they allowed wood floors?

Unless they are breaking the terms of their lease (no pets?) then I can't see how it's any of your business.

I agree it's stupid with no garden.

Can you complain to LL about noise (if it's rented)?

Size of dog is irrelevant.

Chihuahuacat · 11/05/2021 17:15

They are unfortunately! And we own the freehold jointly so I don’t have anyone to complain to.

Is there anything to suggest the dogs have been mistreated or neglected?

Any excessive barking?

The noise from the front door will be temporary, while they're house training the new pup. If they're slamming the door, mention that, but otherwise it's temporary.

I live in a similar flat, and the sort of noise you've mentioned is just part of living in a flat.
