Our dd is turning 7 at the end of the month. A friend of mine asked today what we were getting her for gifts and when told said that it wasn't proper birthday gift but stuff that we as parents are obliged to get her as daily stuff.
For context not at stealth post and she gets very little from other due to small extended family.
But we have bought her
Chess board game
A huge box from djeco with different kinds of pencils crayons ect
Other craft stuff
A book

Am I missing something that this is not ok birthday gift?

I think my view is tainted as my parents bought me lots of improving gifts. To my secret disappointment, plus it made me weird compared to my peers.

That also sounds disappointing. Dd loves to draw and spends a lot of hours doing it. We have tried picking gifts which we know she will love and enjoy. If she was only into dolls or Lego ect we would ofc have bought that for her, but she's more the creative type than the playing with toys type if that makes sense. My friends dd is lol obsessed and perhaps that's why my friend think we need to buy more toys because its only lol toys she buy her dd.

Sounds good 😊

I think that’s perfect and the type of present kids love. Your friend is being rude and ridiculous.

I would have loved that gift at her age! It's also the sort of things we buy for our own daughter

Sweetener12 · 12/05/2021 05:09

This sounds like a perfectly reasonable and lovely gift and your friend needs to mind her own business.

I must have missed the chapter on parenting where it explained I was obliged to get my ds loads of craft stuff and board games all year round as an obligation!

Sounds lovely to me. It's the sort of thing my ds loved at that age.

These sound like amazing gifts. I got similar presents as a child and was so happy, I'd love them even now. You know your daughter best, so ignore your friend.
And a book imo is always a great gift, especially one she requested.
