It is normal to wash face masks every day, isn’t it?

Promoted by another thread - but also by a couple of friends who always seem to be wearing the same face mask: what’s normal re washing? I have one mask all day at work but it goes in the laundry basket when I get home, as do the kids’ and if we go out again we get new masks from the basket of clean ones. This is normal, isn’t it, and it’s gross to wear the same mask unwashed for more than one day?

For work i need 2 of the blue surgical ones per day, changing after 4 hours.
With the fabric ones, i would put it in the wash after wearing for an hour at Sainsburys but not after 5 mins in the corner shop.

At work get through 2 a day. Washed in the next wash when home. Got plenty of clean spares. Breathing in to it all day they get damp & that's a nice little bacteria breeding ground. Don't really fancy smelling my lunch either.....If I wear 1 for anything else still goes in the wash when home. Just a routine so I stick to it. I had no idea people don't wash them after every use. I would be concerned if my team didn't do the same as we work in food retail & hygiene is drummed into them from day 1, covid or no covid.
