To be fuming that Mother of The Bride shop uses models clearly too young to be a Mother of the Bride..

Just really fed up of the sexism and ageism of these shops - there is a local shop, Molly Browns, a few dresses I would consider as MOB next year but they are modelled by women in their 30's - unless they were toddlers when they gave birth this is bloody ridiculous. First of all - what is wrong with women in their 40's, 50's and 60's modelling clothes aimed for at women in their 40's, 50's and 60's and secondly - some of the clothes look good on these women and I would look a right plonker in them. It is a widespread practice and just bloody ridiculous. I know in the great scheme of things this seems insignificant but just fed up of being in my late 50's and feeling invisible.

Same as Tena Pants adverts -so annoying

iklboo · 09/05/2021 12:03

And the Ulay anti wrinkle ads using models in their early 20s.

iklboo · 09/05/2021 12:05

@Councilworker - they're lovely dresses but definitely more Wicked Stepmother than MOB.

sadfanny · 09/05/2021 12:06

Those outfits all look very Fran Fine.

Who most of the time have make up on already.

Walk in baths seem to be an exception!

Are they?

I record quite a bit of daytime tv and there's one walk in bath ad running at the moment that really irritates me.

I appreciate that not everyone who needs a walk in bath is old but the woman probably in her 30s, with a nicely wrapped towel, getting out of her walk in bath with her perfect dancer's type posture, who then goes on to twist on one foot to turn and smile at her vacant bath, just doesn't ring true somehow.

Yes, I do fast forward the ads but for some reason I seem to have accidentally seen this one several times.
There's a shop in Manchester that is MoB outfits. They have a website and its the same issue that the models are clearly quite a bit younger than the women who will actually be buying these dresses. www.nigelraymentboutique.co.uk/collections/mother-of-the-bride-groom-dresses
Mother of the bride, ON DYNASTY.
Those are insane.

And totally agree with op, they should use older models.

@DolphinFC yep, incandescent in fact :))

It's not any better for the brides. My niece is a model and was sent for auditions (or whatever they're called) for bridal shoots when she was 15. 15!

M0rT · 09/05/2021 12:46

@pigsDOfly I know exactly the add you mean!
I am 40 but could probably do with a walk in bath due to health issues. I just have to wait to have a bath when my DH is home now.
But if I had the grace and posture of the woman in that add I would not need a walk in bath or even have to plan baths so there is someone to help me in and out!

I remember thinking it was ridiculous when I was shopping with my mum. Loads of the MOB type brands seem to do it.

Rainb0w · 09/05/2021 14:07

I was about to be somewhat charitable and suggest perhaps they've had to get staff members to model the stuff as they couldn't afford a model... until I saw the prices!

Fume, fume, fume.. .
