Careers after kids..

Having just read the ‘High earners who don’t work crazy hours’ thread, where most people who now have extremely well paid jobs but had put in the long hours at the start of their careers, did any of you do it the other way around? Retrain / gain promotion later on in your career, perhaps after having young children and now earning better money than ever?

I’m currently working part time and moved to a basic finance role after having my second child and also studying. When my kids are older I plan to go full time and then try and get a career going but I wonder if because I didn’t get the experience in my 20s will I be successful?

I don’t plan on earning thousands but something significantly more than what I’ve earned in previous jobs is the goal. Sorry not really an aibu but I always find massive inspiration from successful mumsnetters!

Well I’m certainly not in the high earners league of that particular thread but pre children I was in jobs that paid around 17k and then I was a sham for 10 years. I retrained and now on 40k a year after 3 years in post. Hopefully I’ll be able to continue increase that but never going to get into six figures in this particular career!

Well, not high earners, but when I did my teacher training over 35 years ago, about 3/4 of the students on the course were mature students - almost all parents who decided to train a bit later in life than your average 18 yr old student.
I know LOADS of people who have changed careers / started training for their "professional" career after having dc.
