To be shitting myself about taking Prednisolone (steroids)?

Due to start on 40mg/day tomorrow (for 7 days) after being diagnosed with an inner ear condition.

I am a complete wuss at the best of times with taking new medication after having some awful side effects when trying to start to take some antidepressants a few years back (started to feel suicidal) and am really freaking out about the side effects of these after doing some reading.

Has anyone got any words of advice for me? I'm absolutely desperate to get some relief from this horrid condition, but I don't want to end up a manic/out of my mind insomniac who can't stop screaming at her family!

@AnExcellentWalker

I’ve got fairly bad asthma & whenever I get a cold I seem to get a chest infection & my lung function plummets. I’ve had loads of courses of prednisolone, the only side effect I ever have is mild insomnia… it may be psychological for me as I have insomnia anyway!
I take for ghe same reason, no superpowers, no extra e energy, no suicide, no anything....it just helps me breathe

I am prescribed a 7 day " crash course" of prednisolone from time to time when my asthma flares up. The only side effect I get was described by my gp as "mild euphoria" - I tend to feel upbeat and optimistic. Could also have something to do with the fact that the steroids quickly improve a nasty condition.

Hi just wondering what ear condition you had, if you don't mind me asking? I have just taken a course for an ear issue and still looking for answers really. Wonder if we have a similar issue...

I have them semi regularly as a short course when my asthma flares up. Never been too worried as they always get me breathing properly again with 3-4 days

Just realised this is an old thread!

Take them just before bed and you will actually sleep better

DH has ulcerative colitis and has been on these a lot over the years. Never had any issues. He used to take them early morning and always had a weaning down system.
Don't believe all the horror stories. Plenty of people do just fine on them

I had vast doses of them interveneously for Crohns disease for many years. They helped so much with the illness I forgave them the hamster cheeks I developed.
I have steroid induced osteoporosis now but you won't get that with a 7 day course! I hope you feel better soon.
