Son has finally found his happy zone after years of bully at primary. Been at secondary two years and established a super new group of friends on our doorstep. 3 girls, 1 other boy predominantly with others who come and go. But these mates have been consistent and made him really happy at a vulnerable time medically etc
Anyway, turns out he’s now ‘dating’ one of the girls - lovely girl.
AIBU to be gutted? It will end as they are 13/14 and I don’t want their friendship to end with it.

I wouldn’t stress. My daughter had a similar friendship group at that age and ended up dating two of the boys within the group (at different times!). Broke up, all still good friends x

Marypoppins19 · 07/05/2021 17:49

That’s reassuring - any tips?!

Like PP have said I wouldn't worry too much. Since they both sound like nice kids it's likely to end amicably and they can all remain friends.

Thanks for the reply Saltandvinagar. I really, REALLY hope so.

My b/g twins have a small, mixed sex friend group and have done since year 7 (now year 10). There have been times when x is seeing y or a dumped b etc but they're all still very good friends regardless

Marypoppins19 · 07/05/2021 18:31

Thank you ABC...would help if the group was a bit bigger perhaps

I wouldn't worry too much - I dated a load of male friends as a teen and remained friends after.

Confusedandshaken · 07/05/2021 20:09

I think for teenagers who are part of a mixed sex friendship group it's fairly normal for people to date one another, split up and then later date another group member. It can cause very short lived dramas but generally speaking the group survives and moves on.

Try not to worry too much. Your son has showed he is able to make and and maintain multiple friendships. The groups will inevitably form and reform and evolve over time but that's normal and healthy.

Thank you Confused. I’ve become clear the baby days were so much less stressful than the teenager years 😅

@Marypoppins19. You are so right! Mine are adults now and it's a little easier but I never stop worrying.
