Watched the Ian Wright home truths documentary last night. Thought it was excellent and portrayed very well the experience of young people growing up in a home with dv. However ... AIBU to think that there is still not a lot of help for young people in this situation? Looking at the info on websites the info is either aimed at partner DV mainly and the help for young people is either if the have witnessed dv or are experiencing dv from a partner. There is help for child abuse but not confidential help and IMO not every young person who wants help wants to trigger a SS investigation.

I didn’t see the programme but agree that children and young people do not want to rock the family, either with Social Services (if they are aware of its impact), nor police, nor anything that will change what they have. Usually.

Mostly what children and young people want in abuse situations—whether they’re being abused or someone else is—is for the abuse to stop, and the family becomes “happy.”

I saw the programme last night. Very well made. So sad for all involved. Most children don’t ever want to draw attention to themselves; there is a feeling of shame. I do feel it’s better now than in the seventies. A less judgmental society maybe
