They are all over MN at the moment and making me feel nauseous tbh. Anyone else wish they'd stop being mentioned?
Yes= buttered parsnips should stop being mentioned on MN
No= buttered parsnips are delicious, even on mn

I noticed someone on here using that phrase yesterday. I thought wtf?? Never heard it before.

I like a roast parsnip but I would not butter them.

mainsfed · 07/05/2021 10:23

Ah, the way Joe says it makes more sense - 'hopefully' doth butter no parsnips - i.e. hoping/just talking about something will not get it done.

TroysMammy · 07/05/2021 11:38

My DM does her own revolting take on roast parsnips, boils them to buggery, mash them to an inch of their lives then puts them in a foil dish in the oven to crisp up. Retired school cook.

Its June Dad!

Never had them, never even heard of them.

Couldn't get worked up about a parsnip though.

toastofthetown · 07/05/2021 14:10

Why would you be unreasonable to not like a food? It's completely normal. I don't like grapefruit, but I don't start threads about it because I'm sure that nobody cares. Can't say that I've noticed any mentions of buttered parsnips either.

LindainLockdown · 07/05/2021 14:20

I'm with you OP even though so many posters have no idea what you are on about.

This is not a phrase that should be encouraged.

Alternative food phrases of a similar meaning are available:
"It just didn't cut the mustard"
"I had no beef with her"
"It just wasn't my cup of tea"
The latter being my personal favourite.

These posts annoy me. You are entitled to like or dislike whatever food/music/film/etc. you want.

Heatingsystemwoes · 07/05/2021 15:41

None of the above mean the same thing as
fine words butter no parsnips

Heatingsystemwoes · 07/05/2021 15:42

Above in response to LindainLockdown post

idontlikealdi · 07/05/2021 15:52

Well what the fuck does it mean then?

AdaColeman · 07/05/2021 15:57

Mashed swede is much worse than buttered parsnips.
