Who woulda thunk?!

Staying in, keeping schtum and being all mysterious doesn't work anymore, does it? Not in this day and age.

Also, it's time to earn and what better way, eh?

Didn't think this sort of commoner's approach would be approved by the RF but I suppose desperate times...
Why desperate? Recent YouGov polls have shown that the popularity of the royal family has increased in recent weeks. That doesn't include the Montecito Moaners, whose popularity ratings are in the red.

I don't see this as such a big deal. Back in the day, having royal events televised was considered a major step whereas now it would be unthinkable if they were not. They've had social media accounts for years - again that would have been considered very un-royal at one stage - so YouTube seems a natural progression. I doubt they'll 'You Tubers' as such, more that they will use it as a platform to upload footage of their appearances and engagemements.

Publicising actual events is different from anodyne chat.

@IcedPurple I thought they weren't allowed to have personal social media platforms (besides the official one)? I see them having a personal YouTube channel as a form of social media because they already have an official YouTube channel where everything is posted. That's why it seems so "un-royal-like", especially for W&K and why I think they (W&K, RF, etc) must be desperate.

I also think many would have thought it beneath the RF etiquette if 'someone else' had done it.

The next thing could be personal Instagram and Twitter profiles. It's a new dawn, it seems.

It is an official platform though. It's in their capacity as Duke and Duchess, not Kate and William Windsor.

They already have their own Twitter and Instagram pages, again in their official capacity @Kensington Palace. Have had for years. So I'm not seeing what the big deal is. If Kate were to use it to share her make up tips, then yes, but I doubt that will happen. It's just a platform to publicise their work, or what passes for work when you're a member of the royal family.

It's the 21st century, it was bound to happen.🤷‍♀️ I hope it makes people happy.🦢

hopeishere · 06/05/2021 17:26

They already have separate Instagram accounts there's a royal family one, one for Prince C and the Cambridge's have one.

They did change their insta name yesterday though.

Do you have to pay to subscribe to a you tube channel? Is it not free? How will they make money from it?

PicsInRed · 06/05/2021 17:30

A youtube channel 😂 I mean, who ARE their advisors and how out of touch are these people?

Shall we also await their groundbreaking new W&K Bebo account?

HmmmmmmInteresting · 06/05/2021 17:32

@BonnieDundee

It's the RF equivalent of keeping up with The Sussexes Joneses

If they monetise it, they get paid per x number of views. I think ads will be placed and all that. Not really sure of the details but Youtubers make money when they have loads of viewership and subscribers, etc but only if it's monetised.

The reason no one is criticising them for this is because they haven't been moaning incessantly about how horrible the publicity is and how they want their privacy. If they had then done that it would be fair criticism, but they haven't.

CoffeeDay · 06/05/2021 17:37

I want to see their vlogmas!

OneFamilyToRuleUsAll · 06/05/2021 17:37

I mean YouTube pays the channel owners a.k.a "Content Creators". They don't make money directly from the viewers but they (the viewers) are the only reason they make money from the channel iyswim.

Mon DIEU! Surely W&K would never countenance such trade. No, I won't hear it. Confused faints
CoffeeDay · 06/05/2021 17:44

@OneFamilyToRuleUsAll
Grin I also want to hear William say "So my loyal subjects, don't forget to smash that like button!" in his posh accent

NeverDropYourMoonCup · 06/05/2021 17:45

I'd laugh my arse off if they did an unboxing video.

'Now, what do we have here? Ah, Two Chitral Scout hats and a
robe. How marvellous. Oooh, this one is good - Three books, a carpet and a - a mounted presentation of a ceremonial pistol. That'll look lovely in the 8th downstairs toilet to add that homely feel to the crapper we let the gardener use on his birthday. Three cricket bats. What a wonderful, thoughtful present for the children. They've only got about thirty each already and we do try to keep them away from Charlotte as she's got into the habit of trying to twat George around the head when he plays 'I'm the King and you have to curtsey to me'. So sweet.'
