Inspired by another thread, any one of the Heathers would have eaten Regina for breakfast. Truly terrifying teenage angst!
Aibu, or did I just have a brain tumour for breakfast?

Heathers is the best high school movie of all time. No contest.

And, oh god, the 80s outfits.

BeefSupreme · 05/05/2021 23:48

I just watched the trailer. I wish I’d watched this when I was a teenager, I’d have loved it. I was so gruesome.

Watched it with my husband and teen a few weeks ago and now DD wants a croquet set.

My theory is that most people approaching croquet for the first time are thinking either of Alice in Wonderland (live hedgehogs and flamingoes for balls and mallets) or Heathers ('Did you have a brain tumour for breakfast, Heather?').

Heathers is brilliant, on paper a film about teen suicide wouldn't be a barrel of laughs but it's superb.

The thing that still cracks me up is when the cops find the jocks dead in an apparent gay suicide pact, one cop doesn't believe they could possibly have been gay until the other notices... their bottles of mineral water. Case closed!

ScrambledSmegs · 06/05/2021 14:16

Agred. Heathers is genius. Mean Girls is funny but utterly bubblegum in comparison.

Comefromaway · 06/05/2021 14:17

Never seen either film but thanks to dd I know all the songs from the musical versions!

God, I saw "Heathers" when it was first released. Superb, though I felt Christian Slater was channeling Jack Nicholson rather too much. Then it disappeared, never in video rentals. I finally tracked down a copy in a closing down sale. Bliss. It has stood up to time very well.

Now if I can track down "Society", released in the same year as "Heathers", a similar theme of outsiders and cliques, and just as mesmerising, I'll be happy.

countrypunk · 07/05/2021 01:25

You've all just inspired me to stick it on. Doing a late shift tonight and Heathers is gonna get me through it.

Loved Heathers as a teen, I bought a Heathers DVD on eBay years ago but didn't watch it for some reason. Must dig it out.
Delphinium20 · 07/05/2021 04:34

Heathers is mad brilliant. Even the color imagery, while obvious, was very cool in how the girls' wardrobes, rooms, etc. represented their character to the extreme: Alpha Heather was red for confidence/arrogance, jealous Heather was green with envy, Yellow Heather was a coward, and blue Veronica was blue stocking/unhappy.

I need to rewatch! Loved Heathers. Loved Christian Slater then too, gorgeous 😍 Did anyone else also love Pump up the Volume? Great music

God yes, I loved Pump up the Volume too (still own the soundtrack). I was quite young/innocent and did have to ask what a C**k Ring was though Blush. Peak era Christian Slater! (my only reason for watching Robin Hood PoT too - although of course the brilliant Alan Rickman stole that film ).
phlebasconsidered · 07/05/2021 15:24

Untamed Heart for peak Slater romance too.

MikeWozniaksGloriousTache · 07/05/2021 15:29

I could never get Heathers. I don't know why, wrong generation perhaps?
Jawbreaker is a good movie that never gets enough love.

This is one of my all time favourite movies and yes the soundtrack is amazing! It was very briefly on Prime (or possibly Netflix) last year but has disappeared again.
AbsolutelyPatsy · 08/05/2021 09:15

loved it

AbsolutelyPatsy · 08/05/2021 09:16

we rented it from Blockbusters the year it came out, did it go straight to video?

AbsolutelyPatsy · 08/05/2021 09:17

wiki tells me it was a box office flop, i saw it in 1989
