Private teacher London prices?

Hi,

I live abroad and I am considering traveling to the UK in the summer with my 3 daughters. I can roughly estimate the prices of rent, food, leisure etc but have no clue on how much a tutor will charge us for a full month.

The schedule I am thinking is weekdays from 10am to 6pm. The tutor will come sightseeing with us, or on any activity for the day - all expenses will be paid for.

What do you think the reasonable asking price is

Will the tutor be teaching anything or just accompanying you? In which case maybe the more appropriate term is a babysitter or nanny? Do you need someone qualified and if yes, in which subjects?

Yes, I think you are right. Maybe an english speaking nanny BUT I will be looking after my children :) I just want someone with us speaking to us in English as my daughters are intermediate level and even though I think I am at a good level I would like to practice more speaking as I am not too comfortable with speaking.

I would prefer someone qualified although I know it wouldnt make a difference.

A nanny would be cheaper than a teacher (but still ££). Or maybe consider a sixth former/English au pair if it's just to practise English conversation and not much child care responsibility.

Yes I do think that sounds better.

Do you know how much a nanny would charge monthly? I honestly have no clue

Didn't. You ask this the other day? If not have a search as someone did and there was a lot of practical advice

I would have thought your best bet would be to employ someone who is qualified in teaching English as another language (EAL). A months work over the summer holidays might well be appreciated by someone who teaches EAL in a school. I imagine you'd be looking at £20 or so per hour.

You might want to post on the staffroom section of mumsnet as someone on there ought to be able to tell you how to go about recruiting.

What are your needs though, aside from the English speaking aspect of it - do your children require changing, feeding... generally babysitter type of things or is it more that you want an extra pair of hands with a broader sense of what the role encompasses?
