Still waiting for 2nd jab , aibu?

Am I being unreasonable to be fuming that I still haven't been contacted for my 2nd astrazenaca jab . I am now at 13 weeks and 3 days past my 1st.

I am housebound with chronic illness so they came and did mine at home on 31st jan. At the same time they gave my mum who is 70 and lives with me her jab too.

11wks and 5 days after I phoned the GP , didn't get past the receptionist who just basically told me to go away, that it was in hand and the nurse who does the home ones will phone. At 12wks and 4 days I phoned again, this time the recptionist actually phoned whoever does the home jabs and told me we weren't on the list, we had been forgotten. Told me I'm back on the list and the nurse will phone to arrange and if I haven't heard in 2wks to phone again.

So here I am now 13wks and 3 days past my 1st one. Still waiting.

Does anyone know of any info on efficacy after 12wks? I'm a bit worried it won't be as good. Apparently this is happening a lot with housebound people who are waiting 14wks+ for their 2nd.

I have tradesmen due in over the next couple of months, several different major works has been put off for 14 months and can't be left much longer. I feel like they think because I'm housebound it doesn't matter, I'm just sat here watching tv all day everyday and have no life, which is not true.

My mum is not housebound, I'm more worried for her about efficacy in older people past 12wks.I told her to book in elsewhere but rural area, no transport , closest place is m iles away so it makes it more difficult and not sure you can even go elsewhere for the 2nd.

I'd put in a complaint to the practice manager, you shouldn't have been fobbed off by the receptionist. You can book in for your second jab anywhere but your Mum is probably better waiting with you. The second vaccination just extends the length of time of the protection the vaccine gives. It doesn't do a lot more, around 10%. Some people won't need that extra 10% but it will give time to organise the boosters for winter. We've had solid studies from Israel and other places now. If you want to give them a phone tomorrow, it's been a week.

Just book it online. Have you tried that?

coffeecup88 · 05/05/2021 11:41

I think you can book home visits via the patient access app? If your mum can travel I believe some of the vaccination hubs are offering free Uber cars to get people to and from there jabs.

Fingers crossed you get it sorted soon

The logistics of have vaccinating are difficult. Unfortunately they can't just send a nurse to do one, there's a whole coordination and logistical plan involved in this.

You can go elsewhere for the second jab, although ideally you wouldn’t. I’d book it online and organise some transport.

@Waitingforaprick LOL at your username! Grin

But yeah, you SHOULD have been offered the second one by now.

Me and DH are having our second one next Thursday, and it will be 12 weeks since the first one.

You need to have it really.

For what its worth, the first one will give you good protection (maybe 70-80%, depending on which one it was,) but you have a right to demand the second one...

Don't let any gatekeeper receptionist fob you off!

Email a complaint to the practice manager!

Good luck!

There obviously isn't much data on how the vaccine's efficacy is affected by different lengths between the doses, but what we do have suggests a couple more weeks won't make much (any) difference. This is no excuse for how you've been treated but try not to worry about losing protection.

Just to update, I had to get the local clinical commissioning group involved to chase it up a few days ago. I had been forgotten, twice!

Phoned the Dr's again this morning, they phoned the home vaccination team again while I was on the phone which they already did 2wks ago to put me back on the list then told me I'd get it today or tomorrow. 40 mins later another phonecall from the home jab team saying they were in the van in my local area and they'd be with me within 10 mins.

Jab done, finally.

Great news!

I guess it's to do with supply and demand? I'm very lucky really I phoned my GP in Feb just to make sure they had me down as a carer so group six and they booked me in for my first vaccine a few days later Pfizer ,my DH also got one as he's CEV ,he got a text at the beginning of last week to get his second and I didn't ,so phoned Gp again and booked us both in for the second ( about ten weeks after the first ) a few days later .
