To never go swimming? Or to the gym?

The last time I went swimming was on holiday in Spain 8 years ago. Before that would have been when I was at school aged 12 (33 now).

Never stepped foot inside a gym.

Anybody else never go swimming or to the gym?

The last time I went swimming - ie did laps was approximately 30 years ago. I want to go on boat holidays and attempt scuba diving in 2023. So I'm booking in for swimming lessons next month and plan to go use the swimming pool 2 per week.

I don't see the point of swimming unless there is a wave pool, jets, fountains and waterslides, or it's outside on a hot day, ideally a lake or the sea. It's a source of great sadness to me that middle aged people without kids don't get their own session at water parks. Sad

I don't swim or go to the gym. Take dips in the pool to cool off on holiday.

As the first poster said, why is it unreasonable? I do go swimming, but only because it's good for me. However given lockdown and the fact I've not been able to go since December, I am now wondering whether to bother going again.

And I've only been to a gym once.

Yes I love pools with flumes etc. Highlight of my holiday when we find one - DH doesn't go but DS and I love it :)

I hate the gym but I go running and cycling to keep fit so don't really need it. I do normally love swimming but at the moment you have to book when you go due to covid and I just haven't been able to get a slot so thinking I might just give up on it.

I'd say most of the population don't swim or gym, I don't understand why you'd think otherwise. I do and most people I know do, but then I'm from an athletic background so most people I know are too.
