To call prospective employer?

I applied for a job I really want a few weeks ago, the the closing date for applications was the 28th of April with interviews being held week commencing the 10th May.

The job is perfect for me and I really want it! There is no commute, fantastic salary and is close enough to the dc school where they can leave on they're own and meet me at their nan's house after.

I've never done it before but how would you look at a prospective employee if they were to call and ask how the application is progressing?

Did I mention I really want this job???

Nooo it’s so annoying when people do this. I feel like they are assuming I can’t do my job. We have your application I will get back to you when the applications have been shortlisted. You checking up on me does NOTHING but irritate me.

If I was the recruiter I'd probably find it a bit annoying, you don't want to come across too pushy

If they're going to shortlist you they will regardless. Is your thinking that if you haven't been successful the call will change their mind?

Got to say, it would really piss me off.

I would give them time to catch up from the Bank Holiday weekend. They probably won’t have capacity to start reviewing applications until the end of the week.

@Whosthatbehindthemask

I did this recently and got called for an interview the next day.

I simply called and said I was aware the closing date hadn't yet passed but I was very interested in the role and was there any update on my application. How that is construed as being pushy by some posters on here is beyond me. I was always told it showed willingness and that you really were interested in working for their company.

Makes me laugh all the recruiters on here who actually seem to despise recruiting Hmm

Most people on here that are replying are not recruiters, they have an actual full time roll that they need to deal with. I am in a far better position to say who is and isn't suitable for a roll based on my experience than the CEO for example as he doesn't understand my roll fully. That's the case for most people on here.

Getting people ring/email in is almost as annoying as people from recruitment agencies trying to persuade you that X candidate is perfect and would be happy to put them in touch.
