The plumber needs to order my radiators today. Please help! I will try to upload photos but if that fails - I have a Victorian house I am renovating. I plan to have neutral decor, I am putting in wooden floors, stripped wooden floors, wood burner, original cast iron fireplaces, sash windows back in. All door and window furniture is antique black.
I’ve chosen traditional looking column rads. Shall I go for anthracite grey or stick with white?

I love how the grey looks in traditional homes with neutral decor. It adds a Morden flare and is striking. But I worry it will end up looking old fashioned and maybe white is safer but also white against neutral decor is very calming.

Yes - anthracite grey
No - white

Yes grey
More interesting!

MySocalledLoaf · 04/05/2021 05:26

Grey. Possibly you can paint them if you’re bored of them some years down the line?

Invisiblewoman1 · 04/05/2021 05:28

thank you!!

Voting wise I meant to say
Yabu - grey
Yanbu - white

I would choose white as I'm not a fan on grey grey everything and am quite bored of it now and I think it will date quickly. But it doesn't matter what I think! If you like the grey you should get it, but as PP said check how hard they are to paint if you wanted to change in future then it matters less.

PragmaticWench · 04/05/2021 06:34

I think there's a difference in the heat output with grey? Vaguely remember from when we looked a while back...

Bluesheep8 · 04/05/2021 06:59

I'd go with white, personally. They look more traditional imo.

WhatTheFlap · 04/05/2021 07:06

Grey!

Linguaphile · 04/05/2021 07:06

I think the grey will look really dated in a few years, so I voted for white.

MiaowMiaow99 · 04/05/2021 07:41

White, Grey is going to datestamp our interiors quicker than you can say 'rag rolling'.

PocketFluff · 04/05/2021 08:08

Just to throw another option in there, what about cast iron black to match the fireplace etc?

StCharlotte · 04/05/2021 08:14

I subscribe to three interiors magazines a month and had to Google "Morden flare" in case it was a new trend I'd missed. Luckily Google knew what the OP meant Grin

White BTW. Without question.

Pottedpalm · 04/05/2021 08:15

Grey

LakieLady · 04/05/2021 08:17

White. I think we have reached "peak grey" and it will look dated soon.

ThatIsMyPotato · 04/05/2021 08:19

White. Grey is going to age so badly and radiators can last years.

LadyPoison · 04/05/2021 08:19

White - grey is already starting to look dated

PegasusReturns · 04/05/2021 08:21

White 100%

Grey is already on its way out and there’s a reason why despite the blip that was avocado bathrooms, white has been the colour of choice for sinks and rads for decades.

Fixitup2 · 04/05/2021 08:23

I’d also say white as grey is beginning to look dated and going out of fashion. White, whilst not the fashionable choice, is inoffensive.

Focalpoint · 04/05/2021 08:35

Depends if you want to make a feature of your radiators or for them to blend into the background. Personally I'd go with white.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 04/05/2021 08:36

Are those the only choices?

Pinkyavocado · 04/05/2021 08:38

Grey. It isn’t going to date in a Victorian house 🙄

Vetyveriohohoh · 04/05/2021 08:39

Anthracite grey rads are almost black, we are in a period house and have a mix of anthracite against dark walls and white on light walls. I wanted them to blend in as much as possible.

Greenmarmalade · 04/05/2021 08:43

I’m more concerned with the wood burner plan- really bad for air quality in your home.

Grey. Wish I could justify the cost to replace all my mix n match white ones.

Goodtohear · 04/05/2021 09:00

Radiators are a long term investment not something to buy because it's in fashion now. I've gone for white because they don't 'go out of fashion'.

Not if you season your wood and junk treated or painted wood.
