To ask if you would want to wfh full time?

The thought of going back to work 5 days a week seems excruciating, but I'm unsure I would want to wfh five days a week either.

I recently had a job opportunity, but turned it down as it was 100% remote and I thought that would be bad for my mental health. I don't have many friends so work is my main interaction. But maybe I'm mad - wfh has benefits like no commute, privacy, more time in the evening etc.

Would you want to wfh full time, permanently?

No Never. I hate it

wizzywig · 03/05/2021 21:22

No. I hate how my world has gone so small. I've put on weight and wear shit clothes. I want some of my life back

MinesAPintOfTea · 03/05/2021 21:25

I think not... but this year has been full of separating. Maybe post-divorce it might seem more appealing.

Megan2018 · 03/05/2021 21:25

Yes I would.
DH WFH full time permanently (since pre Covid). I’ve been since Covid. If I could WFH forever I’d love it.
I hate commuting and people. Sadly I’ll be back in the office 3-4 days soon enough.

CaptainMerica · 03/05/2021 21:26

I'd like to WFH as the default, and only go to the office when there is a point to it, like for specific meetings that would be better face to face.

Passthecake30 · 03/05/2021 21:26

Like you, I don’t hVe many friends so office is my main interaction with people. I think I’ll be going to the office 1-2 days a week, max. After Covid restrictions have ended I’ll be looking for ways to make friends outside work more group fitness classes perhaps as wfh for a year has really shown me just how lonely my life will become once the kids leave home.

FrankButchersDickieBow · 03/05/2021 21:26

Hated wfh when husband was furloughed and home schooling was a necessity.

I LOVE it when dd is in school and dh is at work. He works shifts so is home sometimes.

I have asked for flexi-working going back, which has been agreed.

So I will be working morning from the office and afternoons from home, which is ace because dd is finishing school at 2.15pm at the moment.

Due to go back 21st June.

I have missed the office chit chat though, I must admit that. But funnily enough, working from home has actually strengthened my working relationships with colleagues.

Looking forward to seeing how it goes.

Orangebug · 03/05/2021 21:28

From a personal point of view I enjoy wfh (save time and money on commuting, easier to fit in exercise, nice to see more of DH). But I have no doubt that it's not as effective for the students (I'm a lecturer) so we will need to go back when we're allowed to.

CMOTDibbler · 03/05/2021 21:28

I've been home based since 2007. I do normally travel for work, so am on site etc, but I can't imagine being in an office again

Polkadotties · 03/05/2021 21:29

Without a doubt.
I love being on my own so I can concentrate on my work. I don’t care what so and so’s DD did at school the previous day or what my colleagues had for dinner last night.
I have a horse so get out the house every day and socialise with other like minded people.

WhatTheFlap · 03/05/2021 21:29

I’m self employed so WFH full time - I LOVE IT! Probably helps that my last office job was absolutely hideous. Had to put up with casual racism/sexism on a daily basis and managers were absolutely awful.

Can’t see myself ever going back to that life now!

Womencanlift · 03/05/2021 21:30

I couldn’t do it full time. My mental health has severely deteriorated since wfh mainly due to the lack of separation of work and home life

I live in a one bedroom flat and sick of having a desk right in the middle of my living room

Even though I’m a definite introvert (I know that these threads always go down this route) I still hate not being in the office

RandomUsernameHere · 03/05/2021 21:31

I would like it but YANBU to not want to. For me, work is not a big part of my social life so wfh suits me, but I completely see it's different for many people.

MatthewHBpig · 03/05/2021 21:31

Yes because it works for me as single parent. It's key to my survival tbh.

I spent so much time for years pre COVID fighting the system to wfh almost full time due to my needing to be there for my young kids.

Now we've all seen it works and I need it to stay. For at least another 5 years anyway!

I love going to the office, being in the city of London but it doesn't work practically. And I don't just mean for the coffee and pastries (well, kinda...)

Suzi888 · 03/05/2021 21:31

No, I’m not a huge fan. It’s handy at times though!

Eyevorbig0ne · 03/05/2021 21:32

I am a pt worker and wfh. It suits me. I hate my job. As it's pt I can crack on, knowing I'll be free at 3pm.
However, if I did this ft, I couldn't wfh ft. I'd slope off..

Roominmyhouse · 03/05/2021 21:34

Yep I love it! We still don’t know what our future working will look like but it’s likely to be going into the office maximum once a week, possibly less. I’ll take that as it’s a massive improvement on my previous situation of spending 2 hours a day in the car and £300 a month on petrol and parking at work.

Babdoc · 03/05/2021 21:36

Well, it would have been a bit of a challenge. I was a hospital doctor, specialising in anaesthesia and intensive care! Grin
Now retired, and enjoying being home based.

SquigglePigs · 03/05/2021 21:36

Yes absolutely. It's looking like work is going to go down the "only come in for a specific reason" route so I'm hoping a day a fortnight at most. I love working from home. I can see that is I was earlier in my carrier I'd maybe feel different and I will bear that in mind for supporting our junior staff but on a personal level I see very little benefit to being back in the office.

tttigress · 03/05/2021 21:38

Yes, I would.

I don't think the wishes of people who live in large houses with personal offices are being balanced against people who who difficult home circumstances and need to get back to the office.

I think we need to get back to normal asap.

iklboo · 03/05/2021 21:40

In a heartbeat. I think our team might be allowed to do this, maybe going in a couple of days a month for team meetings.

purplebatbear · 03/05/2021 21:42

I would LOVE to wfh full time. But I'm a teacher! I really enjoyed working from home (although I appreciate that my job is not as affective when done from home).
If I could transition to a wfh job, I absolutely would. In a heartbeat!

Peace43 · 03/05/2021 22:01

I do, have done for 12 years. I miss the office a bit, it was easier to socialise but I got used to the extra time wfh gives me. I wouldn’t go back to commuting now!

Redwinestillfine · 03/05/2021 22:04

In a heartbeat.

Pebbledashery · 03/05/2021 22:09

I'm actually leaving a job that's part time and remote working, my boss expected me back in the office in Central London and its not feasible to a change in my circumstances and becoming a single parent.. I got offered a new role in a hospital that's 5 days a week in the hospital trusts offices.. It's only 20 minutes from home so that's why I don't mind too much and it's something completely different to what I'm doing now so im excited to start.
