To give DS clothing as birthday gifts?

DS will be 8, he doesn't need anything, he has lots of toys (that he doesn't play with) an Xbox one which is all he's interested in. But he needs clothes that obviously I would need to buy for him anyway I've just ordered a load online, some naice stuff, some trainers, some everyday wear. WIBU to wrap these as gifts for his birthday? When asked what he would like he said an iPhone (not happening) ... I have a few Minecraft bits for him to open but other than that I'm stuck?

My 8YO was the same on his birthday. He has never really been interested in playing with toys, even when he was younger. He likes to game, draw, read and play outside. He did ask for some pokemon cards which we got him. But he wasn't even too fussed on any Nintendo games, he's mainly interested in Minecraft.

I got him some clothes, mainly Mincecraft T-shirts and hoodies. PIL did give him money, and he's actually quite enjoyed thinking about and choosing something he really wants. He has enough left for one switch game. He's debating which one he wants and downloaded a load of demos to help him decide bless him!

Trainers are a good shout, I got both DC trainers for Christmas. Higher end, branded clothes are probably nicer for presents.

@kowari yes! Birthday boy/girl always gets a special breakfast usually pancakes with fruit and chocolate sauce and then gets their favourite dinner. ... For DS I'm 99% sure that will be sausages.

Ok so I'm going to order some 'merch' will wrap the trainers and the outfit I think he will like the most, the Minecraft bits and Minecraft PJ's. And I'm going to look for a climbing experience type thingy. Thanks everyone.

I think he'll be delighted! DS also liked getting money if he was saving for something. Now he just likes getting money!

I have always given DD some clothes, such as party tutu skirts, at Christmas and birthdays; but she hates it Grin and the "squashy presents" always get opened last Grin (Don't worry, DD is not suffering for lack of presents!) I don't see why not OP if they are special items and he also has other stuff!

No, please don't buy clothes as a present. I think buying expensive branded stuff as a gift will only fuel the idea that they are somehow better.
My DS loved climbing trees at that age and as an adult climbing is now his hobby. Or rather I should say bouldering which is perfect for 8 year olds.
Bouldering is different to climbing because no ropes are involved, it's relatively low level and done over huge crash mats. Perhaps a club membership if you can find somewhere? Or the proper kit?

In our house some clothes are given most birthdays and Christmases, but alongside more fun things.

At eight I would maybe look to some tickets for somewhere, a trip out if there are no toys they want.

@kowari yes, I know not all children love trainers. In general it seems as if trainers are more important to young people now. When I was young, certain brands were cool but I don’t remember anybody having 10 pairs or being obsessive about them.
