To wonder why the packet tells you to boil it?

If you buy gnocchi, the packet will tell you to cook them by boiling them in salted water until they rise to the surface.

But having now tried them fried them in a tiny amount of oil instead (a tip-off from a friend), they are SOOOO much nicer; crispy, edged, soft little pillows with none of the stodginess of boiled (It certainly works for fresh gnocchi from the chiller; haven't tried it with long-life yet).

Anyone else fry their gnocchi?

AIBU to think that the accepted cooking instructions are simply wrong?

Well I never! I struggle to find nice gnocchi so recently went to the trouble of making my own - disgusting balls of stodge indeed! Recipe said to boil, which I always do! Looks like that might’ve the problem. I shall definitely give frying/roasting a go now! Thanks everyone for the tips.
