Dominic Raab on Andrew Marr wearing union jack badge

I know most tories now have a union jack behind them when interviewed. Dominic Raab is actually
wearing a union jack badge on his lapel. Oh the irony considering their ineptitude and corruption. Screwing the country whilst declaring how patriotic they are.

I don’t think I have ever known a Government as inept, corrupt and brazen as this one.

giletrouge · 02/05/2021 10:06

But entirely predictable 'patriotic' nonsense.

If one were allowed a response, one would wear a giant spider brooch à la Lady Hale. And fix him with a frightening stare.

It better not become a "thing".

I.e unless you have a flag or a badge you are unpatriotic.

I bloody hope not, or I'll have to dig out my ancient sex pistols one, and I'm a bit old for that.

Never too old for a sex pistols badge. Sounds good to me. I used to have 'A woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle' on a badge. Also 'The future is female'. Back in the 70s I wore that. Well that was a fucking waste of time, wasn't it? The future was Boris Johnson and Dominic Raab.

You're never to old for the sex pistols Grin

I agree that the fear is it will somehow become a 'thing'. Never seen it before tbh.

So patriotic that he wears a badge, - but not quite patriotic enough to know that his country is an island.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 02/05/2021 10:58

I don't understand this 'badge thing' I think it is another US import.

I haven't worn any badges since I left school, and I never did get the 'Prefect' one - but I'm not bitter Envy and anyway you can buy them on eBay now without having to do all that toadying to teacher.

Pyewackect · 02/05/2021 11:03

I've worked in numerous countries around the world and only in this country would slagging-off the national flag be allowed, let alone tolerated.

Onetoomuch · 02/05/2021 11:16

Nobody's slagging off any flag. What I don't like is a cabinet member of one of the most corrupt governments the UK has ever known expropriating it. It's a dog whistle gesture designed to appeal to a certain demographic as your post has shown.

Flag shaggers are going to be the first step on the inevitable slide to first a populist authoritarian right wing government and then on to fascism we go

ThatIsMyPotato · 02/05/2021 11:22

Maybe he just likes it?

ThatIsMyPotato · 02/05/2021 11:23

I think what comes out of their mouths is more important than a badge. Unless the badge says something.

really? Hmm so you would go to jail in France or America for saying 'god our flag is shit'? yeah okay!

Anyway no one is 'slagging off' the flag - they are criticising inept MP's wearing it to whip up some jingoism to cover up their corruption and mishandling of the country - to NOT criticise that should be allowed - encouraged in fact.

ghostyslovesheets · 02/05/2021 11:32

so that NOT is misplaced - I'm tired!
