To think shop changing rooms should be open!

What's the reason that they are still closed in some shops? New Look and my independent dept store have all their changing rooms open no problem. I need new bras and jeans, I would usually try on at a dozen pairs before I find the right ones so there's no way I've got the inclination (or money) to shop online for that. I think retail is massively shooting itself in the foot here when they want people in and spending money... Does anyone know of any other shops with open changing rooms?

H and M are open

Normandy144 · 02/05/2021 09:23

I think most of them are? I've been into branches of Fat Face, Oliver Nina's and a few independent stores since the grand reopening and all were delighted to show me into the changing rooms. If any store isn't offering it then yes I would agree they will put people off but I think the guidelines allow it so if you don't take advantage of it then you will miss out. Which stores aren't then?

Normandy144 · 02/05/2021 09:23

Oliver Bonas! Not Oliver Nina's!

sunsetsand · 02/05/2021 09:30

Yes, I had this whilst shopping and had to go into a different shop to try things on rather than bring them home and have to make a half hour journey back to return them.

Ridiculous and it's put me off browsing in there in all honesty.

Ariannah · 02/05/2021 09:31

They don’t want the hassle of having to quarantine every item you try on.

Whatwouldscullydo · 02/05/2021 09:33

Yanbu

I took my kids shopping the other week. I had to ensure I bought stuff from shops I had in my home town so I could return I'm store if they didnt fit.

Its ok if all you need is t shirt and hoodies but we needed trousers and bras aswell. Ended up having to spend out on multiples then go to some toilets to try on then return. Made nore difficult by trying to use the offers as I had to return all then gave them re rung up so the offers kicked in.

Who expects them to?
Gothichouse40 · 02/05/2021 09:35

I don't envisage buying new clothes for a while. I hate being unable to try stuff on. Then, if you order online, standing in a massive PO queue to return them. I really, really hate it.

jerrywesterby · 02/05/2021 09:37

Marks and Spencer's and TK Maxx not open in my town... which are the two i need! Glad that H&M are open they can have my money then 😁

Marks and Spencer changing rooms were closed last week. The notice said they would do refunds obviously if an item was wrong fit, but as the shop is quite far out, that's such a pain. People were buying clothes, then nipping into the toilet to try on, so they could change them right away. It's nonsense.

Me too I hate it

I'm with you OP. Desperate for new jeans (thank you lockdown stone) but they are impossible to buy without trying on.

Lurleene · 02/05/2021 09:38

I was in a shop and the changing rooms were shut. The assistant suggested going to the nearby supermarket, trying the items on in a toilet cubicle, then bringing them back for a refund if they didn't fit! Hmm

dancealittleclosertome · 02/05/2021 09:39

Totally agree. Ordered two skirts from Zara online, in two different sizes, so therefore four skirts, only to keep one. Queue in our local Zara for the checkouts, with people returning stuff bought online or in store which didn't fit/didn't look good on, was massive at 9.15 yesterday morning. Urban Outfitters the same.

Mango's changing rooms are open, but didn't check Primark or M&S. Good news that H&M and New Look are open.

jerrywesterby · 02/05/2021 09:40

I don't think it's the quarantine issue as some stores are obviously happy for you to try on. I think they've just decided they don't need to hassle... but I imagine it will put lots of shoppers off

You'd think after being closed on and off fir a year now they would welcome the business. My kids had grown out if everything. I'd saved up a fair bit of cash specifically for spending in the shops. We needed literally everything. I cant be the only one either. And yet I couldn't buy much of what I needed. That was of sales they missed out on

Motnight · 02/05/2021 09:44

Zara's changing rooms are open in central London.

Thewiseoneincognito · 02/05/2021 09:45

I’m more than happy for them to stay closed for good. The amount of clothes you’d see with makeup stains on and stinking before Covid was madness.

tttigress · 02/05/2021 09:46

YANBU - we need to get out of this everything is banned mentality ASAP

I don't think that's a thing anymore. People browsing touch clothes, the shop assistants where I have been have also been touching clothes without gloves and none of that was quarantined. We now know that the risk of catching covid through touch is so low that I think it doesn't matter now.

Phase eight's changing rooms are also open (to add a different name to the list)

MsVestibule · 02/05/2021 09:49

I went shopping with DD to a massive shopping centre two weeks ago, none of the changing rooms were open. So we had to queue to get in, queue to pay, go to the toilets to try them on, queue to get back in the shop and queue to get a refund.

I didn't bother to get anything for me as it would have only doubled the palaver! I'm waiting until the changing rooms are open before I go for me.

MotherOfGodWeeFella · 02/05/2021 09:53

I don't know where you are, but in Manchester last weekend changing rooms were open in lots of different stores. In M&S they checked if you had Covid symptoms and asked you to sanitise your hands before you went in. Only every other cubicle was open.

Essexgirlupnorth · 02/05/2021 09:57

I went to Debenhams last week to see if there was anything left. Had some bargain jeans but no changing room open and no refunds so just didn't bother.

lookdeepintotheparka · 02/05/2021 09:57

None open where I've been. It is annoying especially when it's another trip back to return.

I wonder if it's because of staffing? Everywhere seems short staffed with long queues at the till - even if the shop isn't that busy. Maybe shops are still limited to how many staff they can have in work each day?

I found the opposite. It was dead..there was plenty of staff all ready to spray you with hand gel and.welcome you in. All set to guide people round the tape they had set up for the queues and spots all.marked out. Yet none of it was needed it was really quite theybwere stood at the doors welcoming no one.
