Can I get from Belfast to London now?

AIBU to ask exactly what proof I need to show for traveling from Belfast to London via car ferry?

I'm allowed to leave NI to provide care and my elderly parents appear to be in crisis (one with dementia is increasing verbal aggression, the other feels too overwhelmed to try and coordinate help, especially as its like to end up in the Court of Protection). They're both in their 80s.

I have organised emergency assessments with care team who agree that the issue is now serious and is an emergency, and have a solicitor organised but I'm just wondering, if I'm stopped by customs or whoever checks that I'm not off on a jaunt, what do I actually need to show them? Can i just explain all of this?

I've had to do this journey three or four times during lockdown for work and have never been stopped or asked. You'll be grand I would think Flowers

I'm travelling over by plane soon for medical treatment and as far as I know, it's fine to travel within the UK without proof of covid tests etc if that's what you mean, I'm not sure if you have to prove your reason for travel.

My sister flew to Belfast last month and was ready to demonstrate that she was travelling for care reasons. She said that the only person who was asked to account for themselves was a French man. Everyone else just sailed through without being questioned.

Pcr test cert you'll be fine. I've travelled throughout the last 14 months (partners work) never had a problem.

Hotcuppatea · 01/05/2021 14:29

You don't need a PCR test between NI and England.

SilverGlitterBaubles · 01/05/2021 14:31

Its domestic travel within the UK so there shouldn't be any restrictions

Cheesypea · 01/05/2021 14:39

Any emails on your phone will be fine. You shouldn't be asked at all as it's all in the uk. Hope your visit goes wellFlowers

We're going Scotland - Belfast next week to help with dfil's dementia (think he's finally going to have to go into care, his partner is resisting but it sounds like the time has come). We've been over 3 times since the first lockdown, got asked at Cairnryan once but they were fine with "caring responsibilities".

Thank you everyone - here's hoping it'll be stress free because the rest of the trip won't be!

As has been said, you can travel between NI and London but as a useful check why don't you look up the ferry company's website to see whether it mentions anything about its travel arrangements or requirements during the pandemic? Or ring and ask them if there is anything specific ?

SenseOfDuty · 01/05/2021 18:19

While that seems an obvious answer @Abitofalark, the ferry companies mainly give detail over their own covid policies, like refund, sanitation etc. The official websites lack any reference of specifics and i was wondering if others who have done the journey recently were able to give any real life experiences, which I've been given.

Does that seem reasonable enough?

I've travelled between Belfast and London during the pandemic both by plane and by ferry from Liverpool, never been asked any questions at all.
My advice if you do get the ferry is to book a cabin.
Good luck with the arrangements. 💐
