Who has right of way?! (Diagram)

Turning right out of my street is a bloody nightmare. It’s onto a main road, and diagonally opposite to the right there is a turning out of a supermarket car park. The cars coming out of there who are also turning right assume they have right of way and I often get stuck for ages trying to get out of my road. I am stumped as to who has right of way. Any time I have pulled out because I’ve been waiting longer I get a dirty look from the supermarket driver.

Both are minor roads turning into a major road, the only difference is that they are a little further uphill. My reading of the Highway Code is that neither of us have right of way? Does a residential street trump a car park? Does the hill have anything to do with it? So I just need to be more assertive?!

Thoughts welcome! Terrible diagram attached.

Whoever goes first.....

@GreenWillow

The people pulling out of the car park have priority as they are already on the major road when you are attempting to join it.
But equally you could be on the major road when they’re pulling out.

We have a crossroads near us like this and amazingly there never seem to be any accidents there, despite the main road also being the start/end of 30-60mph zones, coming into the village. I think everyone is just ultra cautious.

Roundabouts are sometimes like this.. sometimes it's a deadlock and each driver is waiting for the driver on their right to move the fuck along. Just got to guestimate the drivers intentions based on body language etc and proceed with caution

Agree with PP you need a mini roundabout.

There's the same design near me, except it comes out on a section of one way. If you come out of the supermarket, you have to turn left and out of the opposite road its right.

Whichever one I'm turning out of has right of way Grin you have to be forceful and make your move... You'll end up sitting there forever otherwise. Once you are on the main road you have the priority that neither had before.

If it’s particularly dangerous it may be worth seeing if the council will make it a left turn only leaving the supermarket, otherwise as everyone has said it’s basically a free for all .

Thanks guys. I think I need to be more assertive, particularly with those cars that are queueing. You’re right, we should be able to turn at the same time, but unfortunately most cars turning out of the carpark don’t turn properly and try to cut the corner, hence there’s been a couple of near misses.

I might get in touch with my councillor though, see what he can do.
