To ditch fresh veg

As the title says really. Just thrown out loads of it. I obviously over estimate how much we will use but it feels wrong not to buy it. I menu plan but quite often deviate from That Confused(ie I forget to get things out of the freezer etc etc)
I'm thinking I'll just get a load of frozen veg and just go with that
Never really used it before (apart from peas obvs)
Boring topic I know but tell me your take on this. Is frozen veg horrid and soggy like I imagine?

Really don’t like frozen, sorry. Something about the texture.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 30/04/2021 22:51

The worst thing is tinned peas🤢

MotherOfGodWeeFella · 30/04/2021 23:54

Tinned potato are disgusting - very weird texture.

Some frozen veg is good like the carrots, peas and green bean mixes. I don’t like cauliflower or broccoli though as it always seems really wet! Also sweetcorn goes really weird.

I haven't read the whole thread so this might be a repeat, but I bought these storage bags from Lakeland (some sort of Japanese natural product used) and it keeps fruit and vegetables for a long time. I've washed the bags and reused them and they are still fine.

I found that my tomatoes last longest when i put them in an open box with paper towel at the bottom. Keep the vines (or whatever is it called on)

I tend to meal plan and when I put everything in ky fridge I put it together so for example most weeks I make a balinese curry so I put the chicken and green beans together or whatever. So I always make sure to add that veg into the curry. Veg for me works best as part of the main dish rather than a side - if i just buy a load of random veg and think I'll just make a couple of side dishes with it (ecne if it's just plain steamed veg) i often don't bother! I use frozen petit pois, chopped onions (to save time and tears!) but mainly I prefer fresh. I grow my own veg in summer so have lots of fresh spinach, sweetcorn etc then (after eating sweetcorn straight from picking it I can no longer eat the stuff from the supermarket!). I understand why eating frozen seems better but I think you can do a bit of both if you just plan your weekly meals better.

I live alone and find frozen veg fantastic. Fresh veg don't seem to last like they used to, so I sometimes just buy enough for one meal and use frozen for the rest.
