YABU - No, I don't do regular lateral flow test at home

YANBU - Yes, my family and I test at least once a week

It doesn't stop transmission at all 100% though so obviously we are still aware and careful.

This is wrong. Look at the stories in the news today.

idontlikealdi · 28/04/2021 21:30

We're doing it, only because it makes me feel safer seeing the gp's outside in line with restrictions but they're old.

Jumpjumpjumper · 28/04/2021 21:31

@RiderGirl I'm also NHS and agree with you.
But, you'll not be listened to on here!

Shesellsseashellsontheseashore · 28/04/2021 21:32

Twice a week for work.

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 28/04/2021 21:42

Nope. Not even thought about it tbh.

frumpety · 28/04/2021 21:44

Twice a week for work and DD does it twice a week for college. We have also both been vaccinated, not sure if that would have impact on the results ?

Roominmyhouse · 28/04/2021 21:45

Nope, no kids and both still WFH. Haven’t had a Covid test yet!

deplorabelle · 28/04/2021 21:50

Whole family does twice a week lateral flow tests. I'm recently double vaccinated, DH single. The children are required to do it for school and we do it too. Before we were vaxed it was always reassuring to take four readings - 4 X negative is slightly more likely to be a true result than 2 X negative. Plus we can show solidarity with our children.

frumpety · 28/04/2021 21:53

So would you get a PCR test if you had symptoms @RiderGirl and @Jumpjumpjumper ? How would you know if you were asymptomatic ? I think I would rather spend a couple of minutes twice a week at least trying to be as safe as I could be for my patients than not bothering because the test sometimes miss a positive case, would it miss it twice in one week ? Not sure what the research is on that ?

DinosaurDiana · 28/04/2021 21:59

@StressB

Do you test even if you have both vaccines?
Yep.
SchrodingersImmigrant · 28/04/2021 22:10

Which stories. I haven't seen any to say it stops transmission completely?
PurpleDaisies · 28/04/2021 22:10

I think I’ve misread that post as “it doesn’t stop transmission at all.”

SchrodingersImmigrant · 28/04/2021 22:12

@PurpleDaisies

I think I’ve misread that post as “it doesn’t stop transmission at all.”
Yeah, that was me. Sorry. I wasn't concentrating. It was supposed to be as "it doesn't dtop it at 100% cases absolutely" or something like that. My brain is refusing to do English here🤦🤦🤦🤦
RiderGirl · 28/04/2021 22:19

@frumpety I had covid at the start of the pandemic, I have also had both of my covid jabs and I live in one of the lowest transmission areas in the country. Therefore for me it seems pointless but even if none of those factors were at play for me I'd think the LFT was unreliable. This backs up my argument www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/world/2021/apr/27/accuracy-of-lateral-flow-tests-needs-to-be-reviewed-urgently

FedUpAtHomeTroels · 28/04/2021 22:51

Dd year 11 tests twice a week. Lateral flow.
Me, I do 2 lateral flow tests a week for work and one PCR test at work each week.

Ijustknowitstimetogo · 28/04/2021 23:00

50% of positive cases are missed by lateral flow tests,

They find 2 out of 3 infectious cases. So twice per week will get most of them.

frumpety · 29/04/2021 07:27

RiderGirl Hope you have fully recovered ? I do wonder if you are vaccinated if that has any impact on the LFT, I did ask at work, but no-one seemed to have any idea, we were just told to keep doing them, so I have. A lot of the settings we visit require us to show evidence of a negative LFT test, so we are stuck with doing them for the time being.

Bubblemonkey · 29/04/2021 09:37

Wednesday & Sunday. It takes literally 30 seconds to swab, leave it to develop as I’m pottering about getting ready. No biggy.

StressB · 29/04/2021 11:04

Where do you all get your tests from?

OP posts:
PurpleDaisies · 29/04/2021 11:05

@StressB

Where do you all get your tests from?
Why do you just keep asking questions without engaging with anything anyone has written?
Land0r · 29/04/2021 11:25

My two DDs (15 and 11) are required to test twice a week at home on specific days and report the results to school as well as the gov.uk site. I work in a different school and it's compulsory for all staff to test twice a week (on different days to my DDs!) and do the same reporting.

Both schools supply the testing kits.

Sparklingbrook · 29/04/2021 11:27

Why do you ask @StressB?

Clymene · 29/04/2021 11:40

Significantly higher than 50% according to a Cochrane review:

www.theguardian.com/world/2021/apr/25/covid-19-how-accurate-are-lateral-flow-tests

We do them twice a week - you can get them free from the chemist or schools

MorganKitten · 29/04/2021 19:57

I do two a week for work and one a week to visit my mum in hospital

steppemum · 29/04/2021 19:59

my kids - 3 teens, test twice a week.
Dh and I don't test,
