To ask if you would find a friendship between a 25 year old and 49 unusual

I’ve met a friend who’s 49 and people find it unusual that I’m friends with someone of that age.

OP posts:
littlepattilou · 28/04/2021 15:31

@Beatinghearts Not weird at all. My 3 closest friends are close to my age (within 5 years,) but I have 4 other friends (in my village and in the workplace,) who are 15 to 20 years younger, and 20-22 years older. (I am in my mid 50s...)

Ignore these people. They sound jealous.

loveheartss · 28/04/2021 15:32

Why is it weird? Do you think this or has someone commented on your friendship and you are in fact the 25 or 49 year old?

One of the best people I have ever met was work colleague of mine who was 57 and I was 24 at the time. Such an interesting person who made me laugh more and I looked forward to spending time with her more than I did people my own age who only cared about what they look liked and getting drunk.

loveheartss · 28/04/2021 15:32

oh sorry i've just seen it is you, yeah it's not weird it's totally fine.

toconclude · 28/04/2021 15:33

@Ponoka7

"Imba 25yr old female and I have a lovely friendship with a 53yr old male colleague. We just get along,"

Time will tell.

Ofgs. Not everything is about sex.
Tinkerbellswings · 28/04/2021 15:35

I’m mid 30s and one of my closest friends is nearly 60 we met at work and have lots of shared interests and sense of humour. Our ages don’t really come into however sometimes if we are out with my kids people assume she is grandma but we just laughs it off.

RakeThrough · 28/04/2021 15:35

No, I don’t - I became friends with someone at work when I was 24 and she was 48. I’m now 48 and she is 72 - still friends (despite it being 18 yrs since we worked together).

TwinMum35 · 28/04/2021 15:37

Your friends have lived very sheltered lives 😂

My youngest friend is 20 and my oldest is 82 x

vampirethriller · 28/04/2021 15:39

I'm 39 and my best friend is 59.

ethelredonagoodday · 28/04/2021 15:40

Not at all. Through hobbies or work or whatever I've had lots of friends older and younger than me!

SecretWitch · 28/04/2021 15:42

I had a lovely friendship with a woman twenty years my senior when I was in my thirties. We loved being in each other’s company and shared some pretty intense times together. She died about five years ago. I think of her daily. I miss her.

Ohpulltheotherone · 28/04/2021 15:43

Nope. I had a great friend years ago with about 15 years between us. She was immature and I’m very mature Grin so we met in the middle!

I have friends now who are quite a bit younger.

There will likely be areas where you wouldn’t agree or have the same perspectives because of your age but that could happen for any other reason to - I have friends who have different political standpoints to me. We are still friends even though some of our experiences and beliefs aren’t shared. Same with sex - you can be friends with a man even though you may have different perspectives.

To be honest, real friendship is a blessing so if you’ve found a kindred spirit I would grab onto them!

Vates · 28/04/2021 15:45

I am 36 and my best friend is 62. We have been close friends for 14 years now. We make each other laugh.

19lottie82 · 28/04/2021 15:45

I wouldn’t think it was strange. I’m 39 and one of my best friends is 70. We’ve been friends for 20 years!

wombatspoopcubes · 28/04/2021 15:46

I have a friend that is 35 years older than me. Used to be my colleague and we had a blast of a time working together.

angieloumc · 28/04/2021 15:48

I'm 51 and my closest friend is 72, she's fabulous and we get along famously. I met her while volunteering, her daughters are a similar age to me.

IsadoraQuagmire · 28/04/2021 15:49

I'm 24. All the friends I have most in common with are in their mid to late 70s, and even they are much too young to get most of my cultural references! Grin

Londontown12 · 28/04/2021 16:05

Totally normal ! I’m nearly 45 and one of my best friends is 22! When I was younger I had older friends !! And she is one of my closest friends . I have always gotten on well with different age groups x

AliceMcK · 28/04/2021 16:12

Not unusual at all, I’ve always had friends of various ages, one of my good friends turns 70 this year, I’m 45, her son is older than me. We met through work, hit it off straight away and have remained friends for years after we both left the job.

SeventyEleven · 28/04/2021 16:29

One of my closest work colleagues when I was in my 20s was a woman who was 20-25 years older than me. She was a brilliant friend and we were on the same wavelength.

Warsawa31 · 28/04/2021 16:33

Nah not weird - age is no barrier to friendship at all.

It would be a boring world of friends had to be same age as you :s

I don't fret why people feel the need to judge to be honest - so much negativity in this world and a good friendship is one of the best things in the world

dingit · 28/04/2021 16:34

Nope . I'm 53, friend 76, been friends 30 years

Toddlerteaplease · 28/04/2021 16:34

My best friend is 71. I'm 39. It's fine

GlamourSpider · 28/04/2021 16:35

Nope!

bubblebath62636 · 28/04/2021 16:38

One of my friends is mid 50s, I'm early 30s. We met in college and really hit it off.

Her granddaughter is the same age as my dd so we have lots to talk about.

Not unusual at all!
