Would you join a dating site that asks for a CRB check?

So have just seen a post online from a woman who is crowdfunding for a new dating site where all members will have an “enhanced criminal background check”.

While I think it’s terrifying that predators can use these sites, I’m not sure, if I were single that I’d want to have an enhanced check undertaken and stored by a dating agency.

So
Yabu - it’s a good idea and protects safety
Yanbu - seems a bit too much effort

@TheLastLotus

Forget about me having a DBS check - I’d run a mile from any man who even entertained the thought of having a profile on the site. What does it say about them needing official proof to convince people that they’re not a criminal?

Also the sort of women who join will probably be the most vulnerable.

It’s like letting foxes loose in the henhouse!

This articulated my exact issue with it. It’s totally going to vulnerable women that sign up (otherwise why put yourself through the DBS hassle) and it’s totally going to attract the type of man who preys on it.

But happy to see from others that, chances are, it’s going nowhere anyway

She won't be able to do.. they wouldn't meet the eligibility criteria. Especially as they are individuals. Even if they do meet the criteria you cannot obtain an enhanced or standard check for the purpose of dating. The DBS have clear guidance on this. She wouldn't be able to do them either. Organisations need to go through an umbrella body which are listed on the DBS website.

She can however request they undertake a basic DBS check which anyone can do.

A DBS doesn't mean much in the grand scheme of things .. they could be dangerous individuals who haven't been caught yet.
