Buying clothes too small

Basically with the lockdown restrictions lifting, I have decided to do something about my weight. Prior to the lockdown starting 12 months ago, I was a size 8 5ft6 and very active. I watched my diet and made sure I was active. Since last year I am now a 12.

I am thinking of buying size 8 jeans as motivation to help me lose weight.

Has anyone else tried this and does it work?

@ThankYouDebbie totally agree will never loose my belly. I think as get older, the fat automatically goes to my belly :(. Thank god for high waisted jeans.

@Keepnamechangin

I did this long time ago in my early 20s. I was overweight and size 16 and I thought if I buy size 10 jeans I will get inspired to lose weight and fit in them. It did not work much. I lost some weight but clearly not enough to fit into size 10- I managed to put them on but I could not buttoned them up or even pull them up well completely around. In the end I binned them- those were years before EBay and FB so I just binned them instead of re selling them..in mid 90s.
I couldn't imagine binning them. That must have been awful. Though if they didn't fit and you gave up with the diet etc I can see why you would. at least we can sell things to get "some" money back these days.

Thank god for high waisted jeans.

This is why I prefer low rise. It's harder to ignore the gradually increasing muffin spilling over the top of the waistband.

minniemomo · 27/04/2021 14:49

Done that, don't - doesn't work. Only thing that worked was exh leaving

@funnygreen33 It was a mixture of things including wanting to support my DP to lose weight also - his success has been more mixed Hmm - but also because I'd just had a fourth, and final as I then decided I'd had enough trying, miscarriage. So the weight had an emotional component in that it was reminding me I wasn't pregnant.

rookiemere · 27/04/2021 14:51

Hi the jeans I'm aiming for are - embarrassingly - a size 14, and I am allegedly a size 14 but only in stretchy leggings and jeans whereas these are lower waisted pure denim.

Alsohuman · 27/04/2021 14:55

@Aria2015

Surely you have a a favourite pair of jeans or similar in a size 8 already? Maybe just use some of your existing clothes as motivation (if you think that's work for you). It's cheaper!
This. Nothing motivates me more than getting back into the clothes I already own.

@coogee unfortunately I have the endometrioses belly. Wil always have that bloat.

PurpleDaisies · 27/04/2021 14:59

I’ve been motivated to lose weight by the promise of buying myself a new item of clothing when I reach the smaller size. I absolutely love wearing my gym leggings bought as a reward and it’s motivating to work hard to stay in them!

Jumpingintosummer · 27/04/2021 15:02

Every lb I lose I put £10 into the new clothes fund. I have 5 stone to lose in total but have so many clothes to ‘slim into’ I haven’t had to replace too much as I lose weight.

MrsMoastyToasty · 27/04/2021 15:21

Buy some inexpensive size 10s to see you through that transition from 12 to 8.

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 27/04/2021 19:18

It doesnt work for me.

That sounds like a good idea. I might do that :)

I think I'll just work towards fitting back into my size 8's.
