Started a new job which can be quite long hours and intense (with expectation of evening and weekend work); I am keen to make a good impression too.

Customer emailed us late Friday evening so I drafted a response and sent it to my boss asking if we should send or wait until we speak to client next week. I didn’t feel ready to send an email directly and wanted to get the nod from senior colleague.

No reply from boss yet - which is obviously completely fine but I am now concerned that I look a bit keen and shouldn’t have bothered her over the weekend.

Getting myself in knots worrying if I have overstepped the mark by bothering boss on weekend and being a bit too keen... can anyone advise?

Depends what the expectation of evening/weekend work actually is. Is it expected that your boss works these hours too?

Some bosses are in contact, as and when regardless of day or time, at least you show good ethic

Hopefully she won't reply (or even read it if she isn't 'supposed to be' working.

If there are any issues with this I'd just ask for a clear idea of when it is appropriate to send an email. It sounds like you were not meant to be working (so you were working later than needed and that sounds keen, but in a good way). Good luck.

I mean hopefully she will reply when she is supposed to be working!

Well I'd say if there's an expectation of evening & weekend work you can't be too out of line.

You'll soon come to know the finer points of what gets looked at OOH & what doesn't.

Depending on what it is I'd consider messaging them tomorrow (after 11am) to let them know you've sent an email & to message/call you if they want you to send that to the client or not tomorrow.

Don't worry about coming across as too keen though, it's fine to be finding your feet

I get emails at all sorts of odd hours and I don’t care. I get to them when I get to them. At this point in my career, I have the confidence to just assume that people are working when they are able to work and it means nothing. Especially with Covid, we have so many employees who have had to flex their schedules.

I wouldn’t give it any more headspace whatsoever. I doubt your boss will pay any attention to the time stamp on the email anyway.
