Do you want your bush trimming love?

About 2 months ago my neighbour asked me the above question, I said yes okay it is a bit bushy so why not. Thinking he would trim
It.

He did it this week whilst I was at work

I work for an intensive care unit and our policy is for 14 nights you're on shift or on call and put in a hotel away from family as all
Our patients are the sickest of the sick with covid and yes despite what the media says there are a fair amount of covid patients with us and they're on ecmo so it's w really draining job and I don't have time to think about anything else when I'm there, it's 2 weeks on 3 weeks off

The tree was very bushy, I've been extremely busy the last year so gardening is at about a 0/10 on my priorities. It's now gone. All the leaves and branches have been taken off, it's just a sad ivy covered hump in the garden.

I asked him why he chopped it all down and he said he got carried away.

Can anyone recommend a nice fast growing tree that I can plant instead of it? Can you buy a mature magnolia? I really wanted one of those to commemorate my dad who passed recently and now this bushy tree is no more it needs replacing..

He very kindly has given us essentially all the tree in cuttings so the garden is full of branches. It didn't even impact their light or their garden as our gardens don't overlap so he went into our garden to chop this tree down .

I know I have permission for a trim but not for him to chop it down!!!

I was expecting an entirely different thread.

Skiptheheartsandflowers · 24/04/2021 18:06

I expected quite a different story Smile

As it's done now, I'd just decline any future offers of gardening help from him

ShutUpAlex · 24/04/2021 18:06

Hahaha

LibrariesGiveUsPower45321 · 24/04/2021 18:09

Magnolias are slow growers but beautiful.

Justcallmebebes · 24/04/2021 18:10

Genius. Post kind of ticks all boxes 😅

Imnothereforthedrama · 24/04/2021 18:15

Ok Grin

LubaLuca · 24/04/2021 18:20

Obviously if you're dealing with covid patients at work, a very light pruning of the shrub was all that was required.

Wellpark · 24/04/2021 18:23

Photinia makes a nice hedge bush

tara66 · 24/04/2021 18:28

A larger magnolia will be very expensive - ask neighbour to buy you one.

Nammamua · 24/04/2021 18:34

Is your neighbour coming back to sort your clematis next week?

Don't let him anywhere near your herbaceous border Shock

hibeat · 24/04/2021 20:38

Oh my the bush is gone. I laughed to hard !!!

hibeat · 24/04/2021 20:39

THis is the best thread ever. Brought me back to life coughing and all.

mineofuselessinformation · 24/04/2021 20:46

Besides the humour, tell him that now he has basically destroyed it, he needs to replace it. It may well discourage him from trying the same thing in the future.

TroysMammy · 24/04/2021 20:50

I thought someone said that to you like a teenager said to me many years ago. I replied "no thanks I get a man in to do that for me".

TaraR2020 · 24/04/2021 20:59

Another one expecting a very different thread lol

On a more appropriate note, don't plant magnolias too close to the house...big roots.

Lilymossflower · 24/04/2021 21:35

Depending on the tree you can plant the cuttings into soil and they will root and become a whole new bush

RhusTox · 24/04/2021 21:50

Here

. . , , . . . , , . .

Have some punctuation, it will help.

HelgaDownUnder · 24/04/2021 21:52

@marchez

Reminds me of a time I was silver serving sunday lunch, without thinking I asked a very well to do lady "would you like stuffing madam?"
Maybe she was hoping you really meant it.
ElderMillennial · 25/04/2021 13:39

Wasn't sure what to expect from the title...

Not sure why your job is so relevant. The fact is he offered to trim your bush and went too far.

It's annoying but not much you can do.

Hopefully someone else has a some suggestions Grin
