Extraordinary Challenges... has a team of 25 people behind him?

On BBC breakfast, there is a cyclist Josh, (scotland) who is doing a very long bike ride (for some reason, not really paying attention, probably fund raising). He's trying to break a record of 2177 miles set in 2017.

He's just said "I couldn't do this without my team, there's 5 people doing x, and 20 others on the project " (again I wasn't paying full attention)

Is it really such an achievement with so much support? Will these people get any recognition for the support?

(I couldn't do it with 125 people behind me disclaimer)

@LizziesTwin

Here’s a link to the story.
thanks for the background - sure it is a great feat, but .... can he take all the credit when there is so much support?

That's completely normal in pro-cycling - the Tour Dr France have support vehicles for each cyclist with everything from a spare bike to food.

Well he's doing the massive physical effort and they're making food and passing him drinks and presumably washing his clothes, servicing his bike etc while he collapses and sleeps.
I think the support crew will have as much recognition and pride in being involved as any extreme athletic event eg Tour de France.
But the physical endurance is his alone. And it's pretty damn hard what he's setting out to do!
Even with 1025 people helping I wouldn't last a day!!

Watching Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman on "Long way round" it was a nice change to see the visibility of their cameraman and production/support crew in the story, who became part of the story in the end.

Are you sure he's really taking all the credit? Sounds like he literally just credited the team. It's easy to forget what a big behind the scenes effort goes into sports/media/production, just because they aren't seen on camera.

Op- Such a strange take on the story.

Nobody is helping him pedal

lubeybooby · 24/04/2021 13:16

he isn't taking all the credit though Confused

According to you, he said "I couldn't do this without my team, there's 5 people doing x, and 20 others on the project”.

So he’s literally sharing the credit & giving his team recognition. You wouldn’t have even known he had a team without him saying it so I’m not sure why you’re asking:

can he take all the credit when there is so much support?

Will these people get any recognition for the support?

Having appropriate support doesn't take away from an achievement...

And he is giving credit.
