AIBU to ask if a dyson air wrap is worth the money?

Sorry - shamelessly posting here for traffic.

I have naturally thick and curly hair. It's an absolute nightmare to style and I'm also rubbish at doing anything with it! I'd love to be able to give myself a decent blow dry relatively easily without ending up looking like a scarecrow!

Is there anyone out there who also has thick, curly hair who can recommend the dyson air wrap? Does it achieve the sleek look it claims to?

There are some pay monthly options for buying one so if it does seem to do what it says, then I'd be tempted!

It is NOT worth the money and I say that as a true Dyson fan. I like the brush attachment and use that for smoothing but it doesn't replace the work of a blow dry with styling brush. I use the air wrap attachments after I have blow dried / styled but I couldn't use it alone - my thick, wavy/curly hair would be all over the shop.

Flowersandjellybeans · 24/04/2021 09:06

Shamelessly place marking as in EXACTLY the same situation, thick curly hair, leans towards frizzy too...

Looks great with a professional blow dry but really need to find a way to be able to style at home. Have often wondered whether it’s worth it, or whether it’s basically just a really good hairdryer or whether it’s a game changer...

RubertRoo · 24/04/2021 09:08

I dont have curly hair but I have very thick long wavy hair and I absolutely love the Dyson airwrap. It's amazing. It gives just the right amount of volume and keeps it sleek and smooth and soft and bouncy and just amazing really. I am also useless at doing my own hair usually but this does it all for me. My 3 year old daughter has very long thick ringlet curls and I just use the hairdryer attachment on her and it keeps it so smooth and keeps it looking neat for days rather than turning into a birds nest like it used to do

If you buy it from dyson you get a month to try it free, if you don't like it you can send it back, there are no postage charges. I did this and sent it back, no hassle at all.

I then tried the hairdryer which I did keep, really good.

They’ve got them at QVC, and they have a free returns guarantee if you’re not satisfied.

I bought mine and I love it. My hair is frizzy, fine but plentiful and it smooths it brilliantly. Only thing I would say is use lots of heat protection.

OneRingToRuleThemAll · 24/04/2021 09:13

I have the Dyson hairdryer for thick, curly hair and that is worth every penny.

Incywincyspinsters · 24/04/2021 09:13

For me the best attachment is the smoothing brush. The hairdryer makes my hair bushy but is good for half drying it before the brush attachment.

MiaowMiaow99 · 24/04/2021 09:22

I get a great, just back from the hairdresser blow dry look from the Babyliss Big Hair. I have lots of compliments when I use it, even random strangers in lifts have commented on how nice my hair is.
I have very thick, curly, wavy hair.
At £40 it's a bargain, even if the motor burn out after 4 years. I'm on my 3rd one.

MiaowMiaow99 · 24/04/2021 09:23

I meant to add, from my intensive research, I dont think the DAW would give me much more at 10x the price.

No Dyson product is worth the money you have to pay

This. I’d absolutely boycott Dyson products.
trevthecat · 24/04/2021 09:32

I have one. Had it since September. There is a good FB group for tips etc. I absolutely love mine. I have thick, curly, frizzy hair and I now have a curly blow look every day. It's really quick too. I can go from wet to completely done in half an hour which I could never do in less than an hour before. My hair is in better condition too as not used my straighteners

sickofpainting · 24/04/2021 09:39

I sold mine because I didn't use it enough. It's very fiddly

crochetcrazy1978 · 24/04/2021 09:42

I've never had one but my hair is a frizzy thick nightmare and I absolutely swear by the babyliss big hair. Looks like I've had it professionally done and I'm usually awful with styling tools. It's £40 full price but I got it on sale for £25

Orcadianrythyms · 24/04/2021 09:45

No one should buy anything that gives that odious toad a penny.

Moomin12345 · 24/04/2021 09:49

I've always found Dyson products hugely disappointing and overpriced.

Pumperthepumper · 24/04/2021 10:04

It’s a complete pain to use because you have to swap the heads around to get different directions on the curls. My hair is cropped now but I was offered one for free when it was long and I handed it back. Also James Dyson doesn’t deserve the money.

MrsKeats · 24/04/2021 10:29

I would never give that odious, hypocrite any of my money.

Treaclepie19 · 24/04/2021 10:38

I'm interested in this too... I want the long one though and can't find it in stock anywhere.

IloveJudgeJudy · 02/05/2021 14:00

I've just seen this thread.

I've got a Dyson hairdryer that I absolutely love. I really wanted to love the Airwrap, too, but I found that it dried out the ends of my hair as they're the bit that goes nearest the heat around the barrels. I did love the smoothing brush, lots. If Dyson sold that on its own I'd buy that immediately. I returned my Airwrap.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 02/05/2021 14:02

No! One million times no.

I bought it and sent it back. So glad I could get a full refund.

I was really excited when it arrived but it did absolutely nothing for my hair. It sort of just blew it around. When I'd finished it looked as though I'd just rough dried it.

I followed the YouTube videos and everything, tried different attachments. It's a bag of shite.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 02/05/2021 14:07

I bought a BabyLiss Flawless Volume Hot Air Styler and a straightening brush. I already had curlers etc. The hot air styler and brush cost less than £50 for both. They're not perfect but I can get my hair dried and styled much quicker than with a hairdryer.

seensome · 02/05/2021 14:17

I kept mine for six months then sold it, I don't think it's worth it, there are so many brands now that have a smoothing drying brush that work just as well, I didn't like the effect of the curls it made so it was a waste to keep it, I've just got a lesson from my hairdresser to make curls with my straighteners which was invaluable.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 02/05/2021 14:20

I wanted one a while ago then changed my mind.
Reading this made me google to remind myself how extortionately expensive they are.
